The Dan Beard District had a highly successful year from October of 1992 to October of 1993.
We were again a Quality District. Highlights of the year:
1. Almost 70% of our Units (15 Packs and 23 Troops) were Quality Units.
2. Our Finance goal of $34,500.00 was reached and exceeded. We collected 107% of our goal or almost $40,000.00.
3. This Fall (Sept '93) we had 1725 Scouts in our District. That is an increase of 77 Scouts from last year. More than 375 youth attended our Spring and and Fall Roundups. We have almost 700 adult volunteer Scouters serving our district. This year we added a Pack, a Group, 3 Troops and an Exploring Post. We now have 29 Packs, 2 Groups, 28 Troops, 3 Explorer Posts and 1 Varsity Troop in our district, for a total of 63 Scouting units.
4. The District Key 3 and 6 other Committee members attended our annual January planning retreat to lay out the district's goals and plans for 1993.
5. The 1993 Mall Expo was one of the largest we have ever had. More than 800 Scouts from 15 Packs, 11 Troops and 1 Explorer Post attended.
6. Cub Day Camp was held again at Fred Bond Park in Cary. More than 190 Cubs and Webelos attended and 110 volunteers put on the programs. We received a 100% on the BSA National Inspection for the second year in a row.
7. We trained more than 30 Dan Beard volunteers in the two Tri-District Scoutmastership Fundamentals training sessions. We trained more than 20 Cub volunteers in the Cub Scout Basic Leader Training sessions. Our 1993 Bear Claw JLT trained more than 40 Scouts and adult leaders. Seventeen of our district volunteers attended Commissioner's College and 13 of them earned a degree in the Commissioner's Sciences. In 1992 we had 24 district volunteers earn Training Awards, Scouter's Keys, Commissioner's Awards and other awards; so far in 1993 we have awarded 20. At least 20 of our district's volunteer Scouter's attended the 1993 National Scout Jamboree as either Troop leader's or Jamboree Staff members.
8. More than 200 of our Scouts attended Summer Camp at Camp Durant. More went to Summer Camps that were out of our Council area.
9. The District's Fall uniform exchange netted over $400.00 for the Council
10. For the fifth time out of six years our district sold more popcorn than any of the 11 districts. 27 of our units sold 11,682 containers of popcorn. The units earned more than $20,000.00 and the Council got an equal amount.
11. We awarded 27 Distinguished Leadership Citations to our district volunteers and 4 District Awards of Merit at our 12th annual 1992 Recognition Event. Eighteen Eagles from our district were recognized at the event along with 44 Cubs and Scouts who earned their Religious Award in 1992.
12. The 1992 Scouting for Food drive netted 7.5 tons (15,000 pounds) of food for the needy. That was double of what we gathered in 1991.
13. Our Spring Camporee was attended by 650 Scouts and Scouters. 324 Webelos and Scouts camped over the weekend from 23 Troops and 13 Packs. More than 100 Cubs spent Saturday involved in a Cub Program. More than 192 adults attended and the Camporee was put together by a district staff of 40. At the Camporee special recognition was given to our district Webelos that had earned their Arrow of Light Award in the past year.
