2002 Dan Beard Cub Family Campout

This information was provided by: Randy Ellis (Campout Chief) and Gary Thorn (Registrar).

The Campout was held on April 12 - 14, 2002 at Camp McNeill and the theme was the "WILD WEST". Campout Chief: Randy Ellis; Campout Program Chairlady: Jenny Elwell; Campout Registrar: Gary Thorn.

The 2002 Cub Family Campout was a huge success. It was the largest one ever, with 919 Cub Scouts and Scouters attending. 21 out of 34 Packs attended the event and the camping weather was perfect at White Oak, N.C. Camp McNeill is in the Cape Fear Council and is the only place that can handle upwards of 1000 people that is a reasonable driving distance from the Dan Beard District. We successfully held the 3rd Dan Beard Cub Family Campout there this year.

Last year we had 758 Cub Scouts and Scouters and this year we had about 150 more attend. Packs attending were: 10, 75, 102, 120, 165, 200, 201, 202, 205, 208, 216, 218, 222, 244, 253, 312, 320, 391, 392 and 397.

The breakdown of attendees were as follows:

Wolves: 108

Bears: 103

Webelos: 205

Adults: 453

Siblings: 37

Under 5's: 13

The general feedback on the Campout was that everyone had fun, but some did not care for the long lines at the archery and BB shooting events. It was also mentioned to emphasize to parents to watch all their children for the entire weekend. A complete report will be filed with the District Committee.
