Attendees: Dennis Antkowiak, Stan Belyeu, Linda Boggs, Dusty Fletcher,
Roger Lear, Geri Mangum, W.E. Medlin, Bob Ratledge,
Steve Stewart, Karl Thiele, Judy Ward, Ron Werley,
Lisa White and Ed Williams (14)
1. Pledge by Ed Williams, Invocation by Karl Thiele.
2. June minutes approved as written.
3. District Commissioner - Ron Werley: 100% of our units are rechartered.
Ron put information up on the district web site for the DC staff and
UC recruiting information. Five new UC's have been recruited.
4. Boy Scout Program:
Advancement - Ed Williams: No Council advancement information available.
Eagle Board - Steve Stewart: June had 7 projects and 4 finals approved.
July had 9 projects and 5 finals approved. August so far has 3 projects
and 3 finals scheduled. The board needs volunteers for this month.
Training - No Report.
Camping - No Report.
5. Cub Program - Lisa White:
Lisa's husband has been transferred and they are moving. Lisa has
recruited Linda Boggs as Cub Program Chairlady. Linda can be reached
at 557-5192 and her e-mail address is lindab@ipass.net.
Training - No Report.
Advancement - Judy Ward: No Council advancement information available.
Cub Day Camp - Lisa White: 450 Cubs attended Cub Day Camp. About 225
the first week and 225 the second week. They had to evacuate twice
due to bad weather. They lost $2500 worth of equipment in a cyclonic
windstorm. An anonymous benefactor donated $2500 to cover the loss
of the equipment as the Council refused to cover the loss as the
equipment "wasn't theirs"! Our thanks to the unknown benefactor and
to the Fairview Fire Department who helped set up after the storm
and provided ice every day. Bob Ratledge is going to send a letter
to the fire department thanking them for their help.
Cub Camporee - Lisa White: Jenny Elwell (Pack 397) and Gary Thorn
(Pack 201) are going to serve as the leaders for the 2001 Cub
Camporee. Dusty Fletcher made a motion to discuss the separation of
the Cub and Boy Scout Camporees. Many of the Cub parents like the
separation as they have children in Cubs and Scouts. There is also
the concern that our Council cannot provide the required space needed
for both groups at once and also meet the BSA National Cub camping
requirements (porcelain toilets for Cubs). Others were concerned that
the combined camporee is the only time that we get the Cubs and the
Boy Scouts to really interact with each other and work together. Lisa
made a motion to separate the two camporees for next year. Judy Ward
seconded the motion and it carried. Lisa will talk to the camporee
committee and see if they will agree to a May 18-20 date so that we
will not have 2 district camporees (they were looking at May 4-6)
on 2 consecutive weekends (the Boy Scout Camporee is April 27-29).
6. Order of the Arrow - No Report.
7. Health & Safety - Need a new chairman.
8. Membership - Stan Belyeu: Join Scouting Night is August 24. About
15,000 bulletins are being printed to be distributed to the schools.
Stan needs help in delivering them to 34 schools in our area. He also
needs help at the JSN sites. Please contact Stan if you can help.
Pack 253 was formed by Troop 253 and they are our newest unit.
9. Activities and Civic Service - Dusty Fletcher: Our August 17 Round
Table Kickoff dinner will start at 6:30 PM at our RT location.
Dusty wants the Committee helpers there at 5 PM to help get set up.
We are going to charge for the dinner this year to see if we can keep
from digging into Committee members pockets to pay for the dinner.
The Round Table will start at 7:30 PM. Our storage area no longer
contains some of our equipment and uniforms - no one knows how or
when they disappeared. Therefore, unless Dick Fletcher can get the
information from the Council on the kids who have left Scouting in
the past couple of years, we may not have enough uniforms to have a
Uniform/equipment sale for the second year in a row.
10. Finance - No Report.
11. New Business - Our District was presented a $50 voucher for the Scout
Shop in recognition for our being one of the three Quality Districts
in the Council in 1999. A motion was made, seconded and carried to
raffle off the $50 voucher at the Round Table Kickoff meal, with the
proceeds going to John Spinks for his use at our council camp.
12. New Business - Karl Thiele (our webmaster) reported that our website
had 13 different visitors in June and 63 visitors in July. There
were more than 280 snapshots of our pages taken by those visitors.
