Our annual Christmas party and meeting was held at W.E. and Becky Medlin's
home. W.E. cooked some great barbecued chicken and everyone brought something
to share. The Committee wants to say thanks to W.E. and Becky for providing
a great party and a wonderful meal to start the holiday season!
1. Blessing and Invocation by Stan Belyeu. Stan introduced two new Committee
members, Pam Sen - Cub Scout Advancement and Tom Doligalski - OA Advisor.
2. November minutes approved.
3. District Commissioner - Ron Werley: Ron's job at IBM is raising havoc with
his Scouting. He badly needs help making the December Unit Inventory calls.
If you are willing to call one or more units to check their inventories,
PLEASE contact Ron at 481-9057 (H), 461-3033 (W) or at werley@us.ibm.com.
Roundtable ADC - Gary Thorn: December's Roundtable will feature a Pinewood
Derby workshop for Cubs and Spring Camporee planning for Boy Scouts.
4. Boy Scout Program - Ed Walsh:
Advancement - Ed Williams: 9 troops had advancement in November.
Eagle Board of Review - Ed Williams for Tom Allen: 10 Eagles approved in
November, 7 projects approved and 3 rejected. 62 Eagles so far this year.
Training - Susan Long: The new Outdoor Leader Training is open to the any
Scout leaders who have had the new leader essentials (or equivalent)
training. Leaders can sign up via the Scout Office for any of the 3 courses
scheduled for the spring of 2002. Our district is looking at offering the
new course for Troop Committee training within the next few months. A new
Varsity training course is coming out in March of 2002 and a new JLT course
training program will be introduced in late 2002. In the next 2 years there
will be 3 Wood Badge courses in our council; 1 in 2002 and 2 in 2003.
Venture training will be held by our council sometime in January of 2002.
Camping - John Slocumb: No report.
High Adventure - Steve Stewart: Tom Stalker wants to do a Safety Afloat and
Safe Swim Defense at one of our Roundtables. Lake and River Canoe handling
courses will be held this spring. Watch our calendar for the dates.
Spring Camporee - Ron Werley: Come to the December Roundtable to get your
ideas and assignments for the Spring Camporee.
5. Cub Program - Linda Boggs:
Advancement - Pam Sen: 7 packs had advancement in November; 22 Bobcats,
1 Wolf and 1 Webelos were reported.
Training - Laura Wester: On March 9th, 2002 a Trainer Development
Conference (the new TTT) will be held in Raleigh. Call the Scout Office
for more information.
6. Membership/Relationships - At the end of November we had 2781 registered
Scouts. We need about 157 more (2929) to meet the Quality District goals.
We are short in the Cubbing area especially.
7. Order of the Arrow - Tom Doligalski: The Vice-Chief of Service for the
Tsungani Chapter has agreed to supply the sorting and loading man/boy power
for February's Scouting for Food event. Bags will be delivered on Feb. 2nd
and picked up on Feb. 9th. If your unit cannot do Scouting for Food on
those dates, your unit can do it anytime. Just please make sure that you
report the weight of the food you collect and who you deliver it to to Dusty
Fletcher so we can keep track of how much food we collect in our district.
8. Finance - Ed Walsh - Family Campaign Chairman: Kickoff at St. Andrew's on
December 6th. FOS goal for our district for 2002 is $40,000. Ed is going
to try to increase participation of packs and troops. The FOS breakfast for
our district is at Preston Woods Country Club on April 30th, 2002.
Popcorn - Dusty Fletcher: A total of 1479 Scouts of our district sold more
than $365,000 worth of popcorn. All units, except Pack 222, have settled
their popcorn accounts at the council office. Our units are really great!!
9. Activities and Civic Service - Dusty Fletcher: Dusty reported that 200
Scouts and Scouters attended our Annual Recognition Event on November 15.
Our District presented Awards of Merit to Tom Doligalski, Tommy Grubbs,
Ralph Keaton and Keith Leister. We also recognized 40 Scouters with a DLC,
40 Religious Award recipients and 7 Eagles who were present. Dick Fletcher,
for the second year, presented each Religious Award recipient with a wooden
cross neckerchief slide. Thank you, Dick! The cost of the food was $450.35.
COMMITTEE PLEASE NOTE: The January Annual Committee Planning Retreat will be
held at Becky Medlin Realty in Fuquay-Varina. All Committee members should be
at the planning session. We will start at 7pm on Friday, January 4, 2002 with
the January Committee meeting and then a discussion of what needs to take place
starting at 8am on Saturday, January 5, 2002. Each Committee Chairperson
should review their goals for last year and prepare/update their area's goals
for the coming Scouting year. The Committee Goals that were set for this last
year are posted on our website on the site map heading of "District Committee"
and "Committee Goals for 2001". If you cannot access our website, e-mail Roger
Lear at learbsa@utinet.net and request the goals.
You should also print out a copy of the District Calendar for 2002 located on
our website under the site map heading of "District Committee" and "2001 & 2002
District Calendars" (or the copy of the 2002 Calender included at the end of
these minutes) and bring it with you to the meeting.
Please prepare your plans before Jan. 4 and update/revise them at the retreat!
We will eat out at lunch as a group (and maybe supper too), so bring money!

District Committee Member of the Month: Dusty Fletcher for her work on the
2001 Recognition Event. Dusty also got the award last month for the Popcorn
Sale. Dusty is a Scouter that just keeps going and going and going. Thank you
Dusty for all you do for our district and for Scouting!

Directions to W.E. & Becky Medlin's Business in Fuquay-Varina
From Raleigh: Go on NC 401 into Fuquay-Varina until you reach the
stoplight at the Kentucky Fried Chicken. Turn left onto
Judd Parkway NE at the stoplight.
From Cary: Get on NC 55 South to Holly Springs and continue to Fuquay-Varina
Stay left on 55 South as it comes into Fuquay-Varina and go past
Stephens Supply on the left. Bear to the right (still on NC 55),
cross the RR tracks and to the stoplight at NC 55 and NC 401.
Turn left onto NC 55 & NC 401 and go until you reach the stoplight
at the Kentucky Fried Chicken. Turn right onto Judd Parkway NE at
the stoplight.
Then follow the directions below from either Raleigh (401) or Cary (55):
As soon as you turn at the Kentucky Fried Chicken, you will find their building
is the 5th building on the right (counting the KFC building) at 407 Judd
Parkway NE and it is identified as the Century 21 Becky Medlin Realty building.
