District Commissioner - David Hearne: Most recharter packages have been handed out. Pack 205 is gone and Troop 205 needs members. David has registered most of the District Committee. If you are not regis- tered with a unit make sure you give David $8 and register with him. Thanks to David for doing a necessary and time consuming job!
Boy Scout Program Reports:
Advancement - Ed Williams: T165 and T210 submitted advancements in Jan. Last year our district had advancements for 167 Scouts, 131 Tenderfeet, 100 2nd Class, 94 1st Class, 61 Star, 64 Life, 53 Eagles and 25 Eagle Palms.Eagle Board - Rudy Hines: Last month they approved 4 projects out of 5 and 3 finals. This month they have (so far) 5 projects and 2 finals.
Camping - John Cortese: No Report.
Training - John Slocumb: Wood Badge course is full, they are taking waiting list names. April SMF staff is having a meeting on February 10 at 7:30 pm at the Scout Office; show up if you want to help out.
Camporee - Jim McGraw: Jim explained some of the ideas and concepts he has for the camporee. There was some discussion as to how much Cub involvement was going to be considered and where they would camp.
Cub Program Reports:
Advancement - Judy Ward: In January 8 out of 35 Packs advanced with 3 Bobcats, 11 Wolves, 12 Bears, 26 Webelos and 12 Arrow of Lights.Training - John Slocumb for Kathy Connelly: Cub BLT will be held on March 6 and March 13 at our Roundtable location (1st Pentecostal Church of Raleigh). Contact Kathy for course times.
Cub Day Camp - No Report.
Order of the Arrow - Ritchie Taylor: The Scouting for Food flyers are in and will be distributed this week - Feb. 5th is flyer distribution day - CONTACT Dusty Fletcher or Ed Williams if you want to get flyers. Cary food collection will be turned in at the Cary Walmart; Fuquay at the Jubilee Kitchen and Garner at the Garner Area Ministries; there will be OA members at all of sites to help with sorting/distribution. The OA had been asked if they wanted to do Den Chief training at the Roundtables and after a discussion they decided that they preferred not to do that. The OA has moved their RT meeting time to 7:30 pm.
Health & Safety - No report.
Membership - Stan Belyeu: New units are being considered at Apex United Methodist Church and the Peace Presbyterian Church. Stan took time to explain the Spring Roundup plans and asked the committee to review the list of units he had prepared. Elementary Schools are being targeted, not Middle Schools. The March 16 Roundtable will be the general kickoff of the April Roundup process.
Activities and Civic Service - Ed Williams for Dusty Fletcher: Dusty and Ed had the Scouting for Food flyers printed - see info under OA. Pack/Troop 165 will be helped by Pack 216 with the Pinewood Derby and they are going to try to allow each boy to race his car 6 times. Units need to contact Dusty to sign up for the March 4 Mall Expo.
Finance - Rodger Skirvin: The popcorn jackets for the units are due on the 2nd week of March, units may contact the Scout Office to find out when they are in so that the POPCORN KERNEL can collect them.
Other Business: The committee wants to shoot for making the yearly planning retreat a Friday night and Saturday only retreat, with the retreat ending Saturday night. All agreed they thought this was possible if some of the work is done on Friday night.
Other Business: The Goals and Objectives will be put on the LISTBOT and the District Web pages as soon as possible. Bill Slocumb has agreed to show some of our Scouters (Rog Lear, Steve Merritt, Stan Belyeu & Ed Williams) how to keep our district web pages up to date. Bill says he does not have the time to keep the web up to date and so we are going to have to learn how to do it ourselves. IF you might be interested in being the Webmaster for our District Web pages, please contact Roger Lear at 467-9391 (learbsa@utinet.net). We don't need anything fancy, but we do want to keep everything up to date.
Committee Member of the Month: Jim McGraw for taking on the Camporee Chief job at the last minute.
