District Commissioner: - David Hearne: Unit re-chartering is in process. March 23, 1999 at 7pm-9pm there will be a re-charter turn in night at the All Saints Orthodox Church in Cary (the only church on Buck Jones Road). We had one new Unit Commissioner join us in January.

Boy Scout Program Reports - Don Schmidt:

Camping - W.E. Medlin: Camping surveys will go out soon as W.E. just got the address labels. He thanked the committee for their comments and the suggestions he got at the January Retreat.

Camporee - Steve Stewart: The Camporee handbook will be handed out at the February Round Table. Adult staff is needed for the Cub Scouts. Contact Susan Long at 872-4884 (the Scout Office) if you can help in that area.

Advancement - Ed Williams: Not enough advancement to report it.

Eagle Board - Rudy Hines: January had 3 finals and 5 projects approved. There are 4 finals and 8 projects scheduled for this month, so Rudy needs some adults to help with the reviews on Feb. 10th.

Training - Bill Slocumb and Don Schmidt: Working on Bear Claw staff. The February Round Table program will be on the Lone Scout program and how to keep older Scouts in Scouting. SMF is scheduled for April 16-18 and Train the Trainer on Feb. 27th at Park View Baptist Church in Durham; your adult trainers need to be trained if they want to work on a certified course. JLT training in July has Kathy Connelly as the Scoutmaster. Kathy needs youth staff badly. If you have a 15 year old Scout who is Life or Eagle Rank and has attended a week long JLT course, please contact Kathy at 779-6784. Staff interviews will be held Feb. 20th and Staff Orientation is scheduled for March 20th at Camp Reeves.

Cub Program Reports - Susan Long: Round Table reminder cards were sent out to all CM's and SM's in January, thanks to Dusty Fletcher. We had a very large turnout at the January RT thanks to Susan, Dusty, Bill and Rudy. There was discussion about addressing more meeting rooms and a larger room for openings and a way to greet Scouters and register units attending.
Advancement - Judy Ward: 4 Bobcat, 10 Wolf, 16 Bear, 13 Webelos and no Arrow of Lights were awarded in January. 7 out of 36 Packs advanced.

Training - Kathy Connelly: CSBLT was held at the end of January with 20 in attendance (about half of them from Dan Beard). Sequoyah has a CSBLT coming up on March 6th in Raleigh. Dan Beard will host a Tri-District CSBLT on May 22. The Cub Pow-Wow will be held on March 27th at S. Granville High School in Creedmoor. "Time Traveler" will be the theme and there is an outstanding patch for those attending the midway type event.

Cub Day Camp - Lisa White: The "Dan Beard Cub and Webelos Day Camp" is planned for Ritter Park on June 14 - 18 and swimming is planned as part of the program. The second Day Camp is scheduled for July 5 - 9 at Lake Benson in Garner and will be called the "Baden Powell Cub Day Camp". The final planning of locations is not yet verified. A rain gutter regatta is also being planned for the day camp.

Day Camp Staff - John Slocumb as Business Manager; Jewel Ward as Cub and Webelos Program Director; Suzie Slopek as Pixie and Associate Program Director. Lisa needs 2 facilities people. Leaders meeting will be held at Woodhaven Baptist Church (Kildaire Farm Rd. near Apex) on Feb. 19th at 7pm.

Order of the Arrow - Louis Hanemann and Larry Nessly: The OA is currently focusing on youth leader training for the chapter. The OA Pow-Wow is on March 19 and the Conclave is on April 16.

Safety - Steve Merritt: There is planned to be a Health and Safety training session at the Spring Camporee.

Membership - Paul Hyde: Paul has been contacted by 6 different families to get their boys into units. Another boy, who is a special needs child, was referred to Troop 213 who has the capability to handle special needs boys.

Activities and Civic Service - Dusty Fletcher: A flyer was sent out to all CM's and SM's concerning the upcoming Scouting for Food and Scout Sabbath. Dusty and Ed Williams designed a "generic" door hanger for Scouting for Food and had 9900 printed up. They were distributed at the January Round Table. Ed has had requests for 1500 more but was unable to supply them due to printing and paper costs. Scouting for Food pickup will be in the Walmart parking lot off Kildaire Farm Road and Old Tryon Road on Feb. 13th from 1 to 3 pm. Dusty is the Chairperson for Scouting for Food. Dusty had Mall Expo flyers (and Pinewood Derby Rules) mailed out in early January and the patches have been ordered. There will be a District Table and a Camporee Pre-Registration table at the Mall Expo. The Pinewood Derby staff could use some adult help; if you can help call Kathy Connelly.

Finance - David Page: The Trailblazers meeting was held earlier tonight and was well attended. 41 units have signed up for FOS presentations at their units. Units that have not responded to the flyer sent out to them will be contacted by phone by Roger Lear and Ed Williams. 11% of the total campaign goal of $50,000 has already been met.

Popcorn - Ed Williams: Shari Garrett has agreed to be the District Popcorn Kernel for 1999 with Ed Williams assisting her.

Old Business: John Slocumb reported that the District Retreat was a big success and we had great food.

District Committee Members of the Month: Helene Stalker, Don Williams and Ron Werley for the cooking of Dutch Oven treats and deep fried turkey.
