4. District Commissioner - Ron Werley: Ron has 28 on the District Commissioner
staff, but he needs more Unit Commissioners, especially for Cary units. His
staff is planning on handing out unit charters on February 6 at 7:30 pm at a
special re-charter question and answer meeting. Then on March 13, they will
conduct a charter turn in question and answer meeting. Ron will announce
location and times of the meetings via the YahooGroups e-mail list server.
Round Table ADC - Gary Thorn: Please contact Gary a week before the monthly
Round Table if you have items you want added to the calendar that he puts on
the Round Table program or if you want a few minutes to speak on a Scouting
subject at the Round Table. His e-mail address is shown on our District
Committee members table on the District web site.
5. Training - Marv Tharp: A TDC course is on the calendar for March 8 at Sony
Ericcson at the Research Triangle Park. Watch the web site and the Yahoo
Groups e-mail list server for more information.

held in Fayetteville and a location is being found. Watch the Council web

Troop Committee training on February 15th. The web site flyer for Feb. 15
does not presently mention the Venture training, but Steve says it will be
held.
6. Boy Scout Program - Ed Walsh:
Advancement - Ed Walsh for Ed Williams: The final count on Eagles for the
Dan Beard District, according to the Council records, was 79 for 2002.

and a total of 1657 Cubs advanced for the 2002 Scouting year.
Cub District Pinewood Derby - Robin Biegert for Keith Biegert: Keith has
agreed to chair the 2003 District Pinewood Derby. It will be held at the

in 2002, will be used again. They are available on our District web site.
Cub Day Camp - Steve Ennis: Agenda is being put together and a location is
being found. The youth center at the Fairgrounds meets all our requirements
(including archery and bb ranges), but the cost would be $300/day. The
Council staff is also helping with the planning.
Cub Family Campout - Robert Spivey: Camp McNeil has scheduled both sides of
the camp for the April family campout. The patch is designed. Robert has
hopes that the Boy Scouts will help at the campout, so if you have Scouts
that need service hours, please contact Robert. His e-mail address is shown
on our District Committee members table on the District web site.

with us in the near future. W.E. is also working with John Spinks, the
Occoneechee Reservation Ranger, to find service projects that troops can do
at the camp or donations they can make to have the work done.
Boy Scout Camporee - Ed Walsh for Bill Fairhurst: The April camporee has
been moved from Camp Durant to Camp Reeves at the request of many units.
The patch has been designed and a budget is in process for the camporee.

to concentrate our efforts on getting more Tiger Scouts.
13. Activities and Civic Service - Roger Lear for Dusty Fletcher:
NOTES FOR UNIT LEADERS:
Scouting for Food: The Scouting for Food flyers (which can be rubber
banded to door knobs) are generic (no date on them) and are available on
our district web site. Units should print as many flyers as they need and
distribute them on February 1, 2003. Food should be picked up by the units
on February 8, 2003. The food will probably be delivered directly to the
food closet locations where it will be weighed in and recorded. Specific
information will be distributed to the units via the YahooGroups e-mail
list server as soon as it is finalized. Please remember that if your unit
cannot do Scouting for Food on the above dates, you can do the "Good Turn"
at any time during the year. Just remember to report the location you turn
the food in at and the weight of the food collected and delivered.
Scout Anniversary Week: Scout Sunday is February 2, with Methodist units
celebrating Scout Sunday on February 9. Scout Sabath is February 8th.
Please ask your Cubs and Scouts to try to wear their Scouting uniform to
school at least one day during the week of February 3-7 and to have your
unit attend their sponsoring organization's church service in uniform on
February 2 or February 9.
14. District NESA Program - Gannt Edminston: The October NESA chapter
breakfast was successful and the attending Eagle Scouts seemed interested
in helping the district where they could. Gannt will talk to Steve Glass
