Pledge of Allegiance and welcome to the 1999 Annual District Retreat: District Chairman John Slocumb.

District Commissioner: David Hearne - District Unit Inventories will be completed by the end of January and they are updating our Key 3 list at the same time. We now have 77 units in the district - 36 Packs, 34 Troops, 3 Teams and 3 Crews. About 70% of them were Quality Units this year. Three units dropped in 1998 (P/T 159 & T393). We now have 14 UC's and 7 ADC's.

John Slocumb discussed some upcoming Council items and said that there were 3 vacancies on the DE staff. John and Steve Merritt have been assigned tables at the upcoming FOS kick-off breakfast at 7:30 am January 21, (Thursday) at the North Raleigh Hilton Hotel. If you would like to support the district please call John or Steve to reserve yourself a space at the table. No uniforms are to be worn by guests at the event.

Boy Scout Program Reports-Don Schmidt:

Camporee: Ron Werley reporting for Steve Stewart - The Camporee booklet was available at the December Round Table and they have a complete staff in place for the Spring Camporee. Susan Long is handling Cub registration and Bob Ratledge is handling Boy Scout registration.

Camping: No report.

Eagle Board: No report.

Advancement: Ed Williams announced that one troop still has reported no advancement (Troop 307). Ed has received no pink copies for advancement from the council since October of this year.

Training: Don Schmidt for John Cortese - Bearclaw is planned for March 12 thru March 14 and SMF for April 16 thru April 18 with Impessa hosting both training events. Ed Williams is offering tower training (rappeling) for adult scouters over 18 years old on May 21 and May 22; call Ed at 851-1464 if you are interested.

Cub Program Reports - Susan Long:

Advancement: Judy Ward reported that in November there were 14 Bobcats and only 2 units out of 36 advanced. In December 15 units out of 35 advanced, with 15 Bobcats, 26 Wolfs, 17 Bears and 21 Arrow of Lights. Judy has received no pink copies for advancement since October of this year also.

Training: Susan reporting for Kathy Connelly - A Cub Pow-Wow is being planned for March 27 at Granville High School.

Cub Day Camp: Susan reporting for Lisa White - Four people are planning on attending Day Camp School at Daytona Beach, Florida on 1/21-25. They are: Lisa White, Jewel Ward, Suzie Slopek and John Slocumb. Lisa's plan is to try to have 2 Cub Day Camps. One from 6/14-18 (subject to getting a place at Lake Crabtree or Ritter Park) and a second Cub Day Camp from 7/5-9 for the year round school program Cubs, subject to getting leadership and volunteers and a possible location at Lake Benson in Garner.

Membership: No report.

Activities and Civic Service: Dusty Fletcher - Mall Expo packages were mailed out last week. The patch design contest was entered only by Pack 165. Pack 10 and Pack 165 will run the Pinewood Derby. Scouting for Food: Dusty and Ed Williams are coming up with a design that can be used from year to year for a door hanging that can be used in place of the bags we never have. Dusty will also get a memo out to all of our units reminding them of Scout Sunday and the Scouting For Food drive and where to get the door hangings if they don't get them at the Round Table.

High Adventure: Tom Stalker - Tom had suggested that Troop and Post 208 offer canoe/kayak training at the District Spring Camporee. He will talk to Steve Stewart about getting that info in the Camporee booklet.

Finance: No report.

John Slocumb adjourned the Committee Meeting at 10:00 pm. The next District Committee Meeting: Wednesday, February 3, 1999 at Cary's First United Methodist Church at 7:30 pm.
