June 7, 2000
Attendees: Stan Belyeu, Kathy Connelly, Dusty Fletcher, Rudy Hines,
Roger Lear, Geri Mangum, W.E. Medlin, Steve Merritt,
Rodger Skirvin, Steve Stewart, Pam Strug, Bob Taylor,
Judy Ward, Ron Werley, Lisa White and Ed Williams (16)

1. Pledge and Invocation by Stan Belyeu following the meal at Ryan's
Restaurant at Crossroads Shopping Mall in Cary.

2. May minutes assumed to be approved as written.

3. District Commissioner - Ron Werley: Ron has 20 Unit Commissioners
and about 10 of them are active. 98% of our units registered on
time and about 90% were Quality Units. No inventory in June.

4. Boy Scout Program:

Advancement - Ed Williams: April showed 2 units advancing, May none.
Ed announced that the September Round Table program will be a repeat
of the yearly training session on Advancement.

Eagle Board - Rudy Hines/Steve Stewart: May had 5 projects (4 were
approved) and 1 final. There are 6 projects and 4 finals scheduled
for June. Add Steve Stewart's new e-mail address to your Scouting
District Committee List, it is srs397@yahoo.com.

Training - John Slocumb: No Report.

Camping - W.E. Medlin for John Cortese: The 2000 Camping Survey was
emailed out on the District E-mail List Server (danbeard@listbot.com).
It was also added to the DISTRICT NEWS section on the Dan Beard Web
   Site (http:\\www.bsa.net\occo\danbeard).

5. Cub Program - Lisa White:

Training - Pam Strug and Kathy Connelly: A Cub BLT is scheduled
for June 10th at St. Francis UM Church in Cary from 8 am to 1:30 pm.
A poll of units showed no interest in Fast Start at Round Tables.

Advancement - Judy Ward: Judy gave a report on 1999 advancement
and 2000 advancement. No advancement figures for May were entered.

Cub Day Camp - Lisa White: There are 254 Cubs registered for the
2000 Cub Day Camp and they expect it to go to about 275 total. Only
7 Boy Scouts have signed up to help at Day Camp, Lisa NEEDS MORE!

Cub Camporee - Lisa White: Gary Wester and his staff did a good job
on the Cub Camporee. Despite a lack of adult volunteers and a 3 hr.
tornado warning the Packs have reported that the kids enjoyed the
Camporee. Lisa and Gary did not get the help from the district that
they expected. The Committee needs to address that problem next
year. Everyone hopes that next year we will return to the regular
joint Boy Scout and Cub Scout Camporee.

6. Order of the Arrow - Bob Taylor: Bob would like to see the OA link
on the District Website to be more apparent. The OA will supply
help and labor for next year's Scouting for Food, but they do not
want to chair the event. Anyone interested in chairing it?

time, Steve is resigning as the Health and Safety Chairman for the
district. Here is another opportunity for a volunteer Scouter!

8. Membership - Stan Belyeu: Stan and his helpers presented some skits
at the "Youth Matters to Cary" Day at Bond Park. UC's have been
assigned to the 6 new units that have formed in the last several
months. August 24th is the Fall Roundup. Dan Beard district was
the only district that attended the Council Fall Roundup Kickoff.
We are at 2270 Scouts and our goal is 2900. In 1999 we had 2800.

4 or 5 Unit Popcorn Kernels.
