June 4, 2003
Attendees: Martin Banning, John Bocksnick, Mary Hampson, Roger Lear,
Susan Long, W.E. Medlin, Steve Phillips, Rodger Skirvin,
Steve Stewart, Gary Thorn, Ed Walsh, Ron Werley & Ed Williams (13).

1. Meal Blessing by Ed Walsh, Pledge by Susan Long. Susan introduced John
Bocksnick, associated with Troop 75, who is a new Unit Commissioner.

2. May minutes approved as written.

3. Old Business - Susan Long: All Committee Chairs are requested to review the
2004 Tentative Calendar on our web site and provide dates for the functions
they are responsible for to Roger Lear (learbsa@ivwnet.com), no later than
July 14. We must have the calendar published in mid-July so that the units,
who do their planning for the next year in August and September, can
co-ordinate their unit calendars with the District 2004 calendar. The
Committee Chairs should also make sure that if the event requires a date
reservation with a campground, mall, church, etc., that those reservations
are made and guaranteed for the required date.

4. Old Business - Susan Long: On June 26, the Executive Board will vote on the
proposed redistricting plan (which is still being worked on). Those voting
will be the Executive Board, the District Chairmen/ladies and the Unit
   Chartered Organization Representatives.

5. Steve Fuller has agreed to head up the Cub Family Campout in 2004, Ed Walsh
has agreed to head up the 2004 Spring Boy Scout Camporee, which will be held
on April 23-25 at Camp Reeves (the theme will be Emergency Preparedness) and
Keith Biegert has agreed to head up the 2004 Pinewood Derby.

6. District Commissioner - Ron Werley: Ron said all but one of the charter
packets have been distributed. Ron is putting together a new Unit Key 3
list and hopes to have it completed by the August Committee meeting.

Round Table ADC - Gary Thorn: Gary noted that we need a new Boy Scout
Round Table Commissioner, as Keith Leister has had to step down from the
position. Gary will also try to put together some type of District Naming
Contest for any new districts being formed. Once the districts have agreed
to the names they can be put forward for the Executive Board to approve.
Gary will also send out a YahooGroups note reminding everyone that after the
June Round Table we will be having Round Table at a new location.

*** ALL UNIT LEADERS TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING ***

Starting on August 14, 2003 (NOTE that the RT will be held ONE WEEK EARLIER
than normal) our Round Tables will be held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church
at 3008 Old Raleigh Road in Apex. The committee (and Ed Walsh) will provide
directions on YahooGroups and our district web site. The August Round Table
Kick-off meal will start at 6 pm, followed by Cub Roundup Training and then
a Health and Safety Certification Class for those who are interested.

7. Finance - Martin Banning: The FOS Campaign ended at about $120,000. The
Community Campaign at $8,000, the Major Gifts campaign at $31,000 and the
Family Campaign at $81,000. A really great job by everyone!

Popcorn - Martin Banning: The District and Area Kernels meeting was held on
May 27 with a great attendance. Dan Beard recruited 13 Area Kernels who
will help recruit the Unit Popcorn Kernels.

*** AREA AND UNIT POPCORN KERNELS PLEASE TAKE NOTE ***

The Dan Beard District Popcorn Kick-off Meeting will be held on Sept. 2 at
7 pm in the Luther Chapel at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 600 Walnut
   Street in Cary.

8. Membership and Relationships - Steve Phillips: We now have 2464 Scouts
(1206 Cubs, 1138 Boy Scouts and 120 Venture Scouts). We have 95 units
(35 Packs, 42 Troops and 18 Crews). We lost a Pack, 2 Troops and 1 Crew
   during the recharter process.

9. Boy Scout Program - Ed Walsh:

Boy Scout Advancement - Ed Williams: Ed reported that 12 Troops showed
advancements in May. Troops 42, 226, 307 and 323 have shown no advancement
in the past 6 months. 5 out of 18 Crews have shown advancement.

The Eagle Board of Review for May reported 11 finals, all approved and 10
projects approved, 6 as written and 4 with corrections.

10. Cub Program - Steve Ennis:

Cub Advancement - Pam Sen: No report, but Pam did send out information on
YahooGroups informing the Cub Packs on how to fill out advancement forms.

Cub Day Camp - Mary Hampson for Steve Ellis: They are hoping for some more
registrations for Cub Day Camp as the registration cap is 300 and they only
have about 125 registrations so far. Otherwise, everything is in place and
ready to go for Cub Day Camp.

Cub Family Campout - Susan Long for Steve Ennis: The Cubs Family Campout
in 2004 will be headed up by Steve Fuller. We are not sure, but we think
the dates will be April 2-4, 2004. Steve will verify the date for us.

11. High Adventure - Steve Stewart for Mel Nance: Venturing Winter Fest will be
held on January 30-31 and February 1, 2004 at the same location as this
    year's Winter Fest.

12. Training - Ed Walsh for Marv Tharp: Chartered Organization Rep training
on May 8 at St. Andrew's had 5 COR's representing about 10-15 units attend.
Cub Training on May 17 at 1st United Methodist Church had about 57 attend.

Rodger Skirvin reported that Youth Protection Training is now available on
the internet, via www.campdurant.com. We will publish that information and
the link on our web site and put out a note on YahooGroups. YP Training is
still a training event that should be held as a class with a group. But,
for those who cannot attend a class, the internet training is available.

13. Summer Camp - Ed Williams and Rodger Skirvin: The first 3 weeks of Summer
Camp are pretty well filled up, with larger numbers for those 3 weeks than
our Council had for all of last year (1110 signed up so far, which is only
125 short of the camp's full capacity).

District Committee Member of the Month: Susan Long for sticking with her job
District Chairlady for 6 months!
