May minutes were approved with one correction; the Council Camporee is going to be held in November (not October).

District Commissioner - David Hearne: 4 units have been dropped P42, P307, T307 and Crew 200. P211, P228, P331, P361 and T361 are being worked on to get them re-registered. Troop 790 may move to another district. We need 3 new units this year to have balanced growth.

Boy Scout Program Reports - Don Schmidt:

Camping - W.E. Medlin: Only 22 out of 34 troops responded to the survey. The survey will be sent to the appropriate Council personnel and the units will be sent a copy of the survey. Don Schmidt and W.E. will take care of putting a cover letter with the survey and sending it out. They will report on the status of the mailings at the August Committee meeting.

Camporee - No report: Susan Long suggested that we handle the camporee as both a Cub and a Scout activity and that we assign a Cub Camporee Chief and Vice Chief for each camporee. We have been leaning towards planning and reporting the event from a Scout only standpoint. The Committee agreed and Don Schmidt will let Glenn Traylor know that this is what the district would like to see from now on.

Advancement - Ed Williams: No report.

Eagle Board - Jim McSherry and Rudy Hines: In May we had 6 finals and 3 projects; 2 projects were not approved and 1 was approved. We have 5 finals and 6 projects scheduled for June.

Training - John Cortese and Bill Slocumb: SMF is scheduled for October 1-3. The TTT course has been delayed again, this time until October. Bearclaw is now a 1 day youth oriented TTT program at the district level and Eagleclaw will be a weekend youth oriented program based on the leadership skills.

Cub Program Reports - Susan Long:

Advancement - Judy Ward: Judy has the pink slips and will report in Aug.

Training - Kathy Connelly: CSBLT has been moved again from June 5 to August 9-10 and it will be a 2 night CSBLT. Location to be announced.

Cub Day Camp - Lisa White: Cub Day Camp has 248 Cubs registered so far. The N.C. Highway Patrol will provide traffic control on the road into the Optimist Club Farm and Lisa is working on getting some busses to use for transporting Cubs at Day Camp. Day Camp setup will be at 1 PM on Sunday, June 13th and again on July 4th at Optimist Club Farm. If you can come help you will be fed with pizza and drinks. Please come help us setup.

Order of the Arrow - Louis Hanemann: 50% of the tapped-out OA members were at the Spring Induction even though it was raining. Chapter meeting attendance continues to rise. The Ceremonies Team did the tap-out at the Camporee and the ceremony at the Spring Inductions.

Health & Safety - Steve Merritt: The new 1999 Guide to Safe Scouting manual is now available at the Scout Office. The August Roundtable will have a combined Cub Scout and Boy Scout session on the new Health and Safety requirements.

Membership - Stan Belyeu: Spring Roundup signed up 40 Cubs and 1 Scout and 32 units participated on May 25. The Council has set August 26 as Fall Roundup and Stan suggests, since there will be a Council wide promotion for that date, that we stick to their plan. He could use some help for the Fall Roundup, so if you can help, please contact Stan.

Activities and Civic Service - Dusty Fletcher: Dusty will put in the post card mailing that there will be no Roundtable in July. Note there is NO Committee meeting in July. She reminded us that she will need help for setup and cleanup at the District kick-off meal at the August Roundtable.

Finance - John Slocumb: $444,693 of the $450K Council FOS goal has been pledged. Dan Beard pledged $64,082, which is $14,082 over our goal.

Old Business: Rudy Hines reported that the Council Camporee in November will be held at the Highway Patrol Training Center in Garner.

District Committee Members of the Month: Stan Belyeu for his work on the Spring Roundup; Lisa White for her work on Cub Day Camp and Susan Long for her work with the Council and our District. Susan was presented with a dinner for 2 certificate at the Outback Steakhouse as a small token of our appreciation for all the work she has done for us.

A farewell party was held for David Page prior to the Committee meeting. Dusty Fletcher set up the refreshments. We presented David with a nice patch plaque, a Scouting book 15 years older than he is and $50.00. Good Luck to David in his new job as a Field Director for East Carolina Council.

Next District Committee Meeting: Wednesday, August 4, 1999 at the Cary First Methodist Church Library at 7:30 pm.
