1. Pledge and God Bless America by Susan Long. Susan introduced our guests,
Clayton Robinson and Laura Suich. Laura is going to help Dusty with
Activities and Civic Service.
2. February minutes approved as written.
3. District Commissioner - Ron Werley: Ron is having a re-charter meeting from
7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on March 13th at the Cary LDS Church at the corner of
Seabrook Ave. and Cary Parkway. Unit leaders should contact Ron via e-mail
to make an appointment time for that night, so that units don't have to wait
in line. There are about 85 units re-chartering that night. Ron will send
out a note on the YahooGroups e-mail list server and a note will be put on
our district web site index page.
Roundtable ADC - Gary Thorn: Gary said the new Roundtable sign-in sheets,
which had names already pre-printed, were well accepted and that we would
continue to use them. It cuts down registration time for the units.
Cub Roundtable Commissioner - Susan Long for Jenny Elwell: There will be
a Safety Afloat/Safe Swim Defense course offered at the March 20 Roundtable.
One course will be held BEFORE the Roundtable and the other course will be
held during the Cub break-out session. Cub Family Campout people working
on the water front at the Campout require this training.
4. Training - Marv Tharp: The 2/15 training courses at St. Andrew's in Apex
had 65 leaders in attendance. NLE had 62, Scoutmaster Specific had 31,
Troop Committee had 19 and Venturing Specific had 12. There were 32 from
Dan Beard, 12 from Sequoyah, 12 from Impeesa and 5 from other districts.
March 8 is TDC, March 15 is BALOO, 3/29 is Den Chief Training, 3/29 is the
Cub Pow-Wow and 3/28-3/30 is the Intro to Outdoor Leadership Skills.
May 3 is NLE and Cub Specific Training at Cary 1st UMC and May 8 is NLE and
Chartered Organization Representative Training.
5. Boy Scout Program - Ed Walsh:
Advancement - Ed Williams: 13 units advanced 16 Scouts in February. Troops
50, 75, 226, 238 and 307 have not reported any advancement in 6 months.
February had 11 Eagles reviewed and all were approved. 11 Eagle projects
were reviewed, with 9 approved and 2 rejected.
Boy Scout Camporee - Ed Walsh for Bill Fairhurst: The patches have not yet
been ordered. Only 9 units have signed up to lead the 19 activities listed
on the Camporee web site.
6. Cub Program - Steve Ennis:
Cub Advancement - No report.
Cub District Pinewood Derby - Martin Banning for Keith Biegert: 234 Scouts
participated from 26 Packs at the Pinewood Derby on March 1. The races went
smoothly and Chris Caswell was the starter for all of the races. Roger
Peterson, CM P216, Greg Fishel and Martin Banning did outstanding jobs as
the race Masters of Ceremonies. The Scouts had admirable behavior.

Cub Day Camp - Steve Ennis: The Fairgrounds youth center will be the site
for the June 16 - 20 Cub Day Camp. The second week will be held at the
Raleigh Elks Club from June 30 - July 4.
Cub Family Campout - Steve Ennis for Robert Spivey: They need OA and Boy
Scout help for the Campout.
7. Finance - FOS Family Campaign - Ed Walsh: There are 17 units left to have
FOS presentations made. At this time, the Family Campaign has collected
$55,000. The total FOS campaign is at $60,000.
Popcorn - Dusty Fletcher: They are still working on getting a 2003 District
Popcorn Kernel. We need one by March 28, as that is when the district
popcorn kernel meeting will be held.
8. Venturing - Steve Stewart: Crew 397 wants to put a robot together for next
year's Winter Fest and they are also going to serve on the staff.
9. Order of the Arrow - Steve Stewart for Tom Doligalski: Brotherhood
conversion is now slated to go back to the March 14-16 OA Pow-Wow.
10. Membership/Relationships - Steve Phillips: Steve and the DE's are working
on signing up 12 new units. Dan Beard membership on 2/28 stands at 1774
Cub Scouts, 1189 Boy Scouts and 132 Venture Scouts. We currently have 93
units, 35 Packs, 41 Troops and 17 Venture Crews.
11. Activities and Civic Service - Dusty Fletcher: The 2002 Scouting for Food
Tally is not complete yet, as quite a few units have not reported the
amounts of food they collected. The present count shows that we had 5
Packs and 4 Troops involved and that they collected 5,205 pounds of food.
12. LDS Liasion - Herb Council: Herb will talk to Steve Talley about having
the LDS units meet after Roundtables. The district training teams are
going to train the LDS units on Fridays and Saturdays, whenever possible.
District Committee Members of the Month: Keith and Robin Biegert and Chris
Caswell, for their outstanding effort in our 2003 District Pinewood Derby.
Congratulations were offered to Ed Walsh, who received the Silver Beaver Award
at the Council Recognition Banquet on February 22.
