1. Pledge by Ron Werley, Invocation by Marv Tharp
2. October minutes approved.
3. District Commissioner - Ron Werley: Commissioner's College was poorly
attended and we only had 4 there from Dan Beard. Ron has a Commissioners
meeting before each Round Table. Inventories will be started at the
November Recognition Event, so that they can be completed in December.
ADC Roundtable Commissioner - Gary Thorn: Gary presented a comprehensive
analysis of Roundtable attendees from August of 2001 thru October 2002.
Troop representative attendance was higher than Pack represenatative
attendance during the entire period, with the exception of more Cubbers
attending Round Table in August and September of this year when we had a
meal and training at the Round Table. The training sessions held at
the last 3 Round Table's have seemed to boost attendance by from 25 to 50%.
4. Boy Scout Program - Ed Walsh:
Program - Ed Walsh: Ed reported that Spring Camporee is in the planning
process and that he was trying to contact the Camporee Chief, Bill
Faircloth, to get an update on the planning. Bob Gamble has agreed to be
the Camporee Registrar again, thank you Bob.
Advancement - Ed Williams: Ed reported that 10 Troops had advancement in
October.
Eagle Board of Review - Ed Williams for Tom Allen: 5 Eagles had their final
review in October, all approved and 10 projects were reviewed, of which 7
were approved.
Training - Marv Tharp: Marv has accepted the position of District Training
Chairman, overseeing both Cub Scout and Boy Scout Training. There is a Tri-
District Training meeting on November 14 to set up a training schedule.
November 12th and 19th will be Cub New Leader training (see our web site).
Richard Connelly trained most of the attendees at the October Round Table in
Safe Swim Defense.
Cub Scout Training - No Report.
Boy Scout Training - Ed Walsh: There is no Boy Scout training scheduled
until after the first of next year. Wood Badge is scheduled for September
12-14 and October 3-5, 2003.
Venture Training - Steve Stewart: Powderhorn training will be held on
Memorial Day in 2003. Venture Leader Specific training had 6 people in
attendance, all from Dan Beard.
Health and Safety Training - Dr. Charles Mann: Dr. Mann was introduced as
the Health and Safety Training Chairman. He has a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout
in his family.
5. Cub Program - Gary Thorn - Acting Cub Program Chairman:
Cub Advancement - No report.
Cub Day Camp - No report.
Cub Family Campout - Steve Ennis for Robert Spivey: Planned for April 4-6
with a theme that the Army at Fort Bragg is helping with.
6. Finance - Ed Walsh and Rodger Skirvin: The Council FOS Campaign was kicked
off on October 24. Trailblazers, people who will pitch FOS at the unit
meetings, will be trained on Nov. 12, at the Council Office. Supper starts
at 6:30 pm and the meeting at 7 pm. The Finance goal for the Family
Campaign, which Ed Walsh is heading up, will be somewhere around $46,000.
Popcorn - Dusty Fletcher: Early figures are that the Council sold $1.6
million in popcorn. Dan Beard District had 51 units selling popcorn and
they sold about $421,000 worth of popcorn, a 14.4% increase over last year.
27.3% of the popcorn was sold during unit Show 'n Sells.

7. Camping - W.E. Medlin (Acting): W.E. said that our Council will need help
this year contacting units to get their summer camping records for this
year. The Council would like to have a Camping Chairman in each District.
8. High Adventure - Steve Stewart: The Winter Fest will be held Jan. 31 - Feb.
2 in Gatlinburg, TN. Steve has some room left for adult leaders and youth.
The cost is $100, but the accomodations are fantastic! Call Steve if you
are interested.
9. Order of the Arrow - Tom Doligalski: Our Chapter has an officer in every OA
position. At the September Round Table 10 Ordeal members reached
Brotherhood and two Brotherhood members were tapped out for the Vigil Honor.
10. Membership/Relationships - Steve Phillips: Our district is still about 110
Cubs short of the number we need to make us a Quality District in 2002.
Total membership this month was 2874; 1630 Cubs, 1129 Scouts and 115 Crews.
We have 87 units, 34 Packs, 38 Troops and 15 Crews.
11. Activities and Civic Service - Dusty Fletcher: Dusty needs help with the
Nov. 21 Recognition Event, held in place of the November Round Table.
Setup from 2-4 pm, food preparation 4-6 pm and clean up afterwards.
The light refreshments will be served starting at 6:30 pm and the awards
presentations will start at about 7:15 pm. Call Dusty if you can help!
Those receiving awards have been notified and the list of their names were
published on the Yahoo Groups list server.
Scouting for Food is on schedule for February 1 and February 8 and Dusty
will have a participation patch again this year. The District Pinewood
Derby may be held in conjunction with another Scouting event.
12. New Business - District Re-structuring: W.E. Medlin and Ron Werley:
Our current 3 districts, Sequoyah, Impeesa and Dan Beard will probably be
re-structured in January of 2004. The Council annual District Training
meeting on January 23, 2003 will announce the re-structuring.
The 3 districts will probably be re-structured into 4 or 5 districts.
13. Old Business - NESA Breakfast - W.E. Medlin: The October 26 NESA breakfast
had about 30 Eagles attend out of the 450 Eagles that were invited. 50 of
the invitations sent out were to old/invalid mailing addresses.
14. New Business - Susan Long for Jenny Elwell: The SBI is holding a Crime
Prevention Fair on Novmember 19, 2002. It will be held from 6pm to 9pm
and will be open to all Scouts. 98% of the event will be held indoors.
Demos on forensics and criminal investigation will be held continually from
6-9 pm. It is being held at the SBI Lab. Take I40 to exit 299 (Hammond
Person exit), go away from town, go to 3rd stop light (Tryon Rd) and turn
left. Take the first left (that is the entrance to the lab) and follow
the signs. Jenny says most of the Packs, Troops and Crews have signed up
to come at 7pm, so if you are not signed up, try to go earlier or later.

15. New Business - The District still has the positions of Camping Chairperson,
High Adventure Chairperson, Popcorn Kernel, Cub Scout Chairperson, Day Camp
Director, Cub Scout Training Chairperson and Pinewood Derby Chairperson
open. If you have any interest in working with the District in one of
these positions, please contact Susan Long, the District Chairlady elect.
District Committee Member of the Month: Dusty Fletcher for her careful and
tireless work as our District Popcorn Kernel and for setting another record!
DISTRICT MEMEBERS PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING!:
Our annual District Committee Christmas party will be held prior to the next
Committee meeting on December 4, 2002. It will be held (thanks to W.E. Medlin)
at the Becky Medlin Realty Building in Fuquay-Varina starting at 6:30 pm.
Please bring a dish to pass or a dessert to share with those attending.
The Century 21 Becky Medlin Realty building is located at 407 Judd Parkway NE
(5 buildings South of the corner of NC 55/401 and on the right hand side of
Judd Parkway NE). There is a Kentucky Fried Chicken store on the corner at the
traffic light on NC 55/401.
