Attendees: Linda Boggs, Jenny Elwell, Dusty Fletcher, Roger Lear, Susan Long,
W.E. Medlin, Bob Ratledge, Rodger Skirvin, John Slocumb,
Steve Stewart, Marv Tharp, Gary Thorp, Ron Werley, Ed Williams (14)
1. Pledge by Ed Williams, Invocation by Bob Ratledge.
2. August minutes approved.
3. District Commissioner - Ron Werley: Ron is re-registering our District
Committee. The Council's ScoutNet 2000 has lost all of the committee
members except for 4. If you want to be re-registered with the committee
contact Ron ASAP. NOTE: The registration form requests for Social Security
Number and Driver's Licence number ARE OPTIONAL. We suggest that you NOT
enter your Social Security Number. As far as we can determine there are no
protection devices in ScoutNet 2000 to prevent your SS or driver's licence
number from being viewed or printed out by unauthorized personnel! If you
have questions, contact Rodger Skirvin or Karen Kirby at the office.
4. Boy Scout Program:
Advancement - Ed Williams: Ed reported that the figures show that the Eagle
Reviews are getting a higher reject rate than normal. He suggests that the
Scoutmasters, Committees and parents make sure that the Scout has completed
all of the steps in the process correctly. Troop Committees should insure
that they have a review process and/or an Eagle Advisor on the Troop
Committee to help Life Scouts prepare for their project and Eagle reviews.
Silver Beaver Nomination forms are available on the Council Website and at
the Council Office and are due by November 1, 2001.
Training - John Slocumb: The last SMF course in the "old format" will be
held October 5-7, 2001 at Camp Durant.
Camping - Rodger Skirvin: The Council Camporee will be held on Oct. 12-14
at the Normandie Drop Zone at Ft. Bragg. 16 Dan Beard units have already
signed up to attend. If your unit has not signed up, contact Rodger Skivin.
5. Cub Program - Linda Boggs:
Training - Gary Thorn: Dan Beard will host a Cub BLT at St. Michael's
Catholic Church on Sept. 29, 2001 from 8 am to 2:30 pm. Impeesa is hosting
a Cub BLT at Highland UMC on Sept. 22, 2001 from 8 am to 3:30 pm.
The Council Cub Pow-Wow has been moved to March 23, 2002. Dusty Fletcher is
going to be the Chairlady for the Pow-Wow.
Cub Day Camp - Linda Boggs: The first week of Cub Day Camp had 129 attendees
and the second week had 156 attendees.
6. Membership/Relationships - Marvin Tharp:
Marv reported that district membership is at 2391 Scouts in 84 units.
They do not yet have the results of the Fall Roundup. They are considering
a tri-district Roundup sometime later this fall. There was discussion on
trying to do a Roundup during the Mall Expo. The numbers we are getting at
the Roundups show that the interest is there but not reaching everyone.
7. Finance - Rodger Skirvin: No report.
Popcorn - Dusty Fletcher: The District Popcorn Kick-off meeting was held on
Sept. 4th. 43 units had representatives at the meeting. We have only 49
units signed up to sell and our goal was 51 units. 19 units have ordered
a total of $87,000 worth of consignment popcorn to sell, which is a large
increase over last year's Show-'N-Sell figures.
8. Activities and Civic Service - Dusty Fletcher: Dusty reported that we will
hold a Uniform Sale on September 8 at South Hills Mall. Bruce Elwell will
Chair our 2002 Mall Expo and Jim Conrad will Chair the Pinewood Derby.
The Roundtable Kickoff meeting on 8/16 had about 67 attendees. The food
(hamburgers and bratwurst) and desserts were provided by the district folks.
The $62.00 that was collected was given to the Raleigh Pentecostal Church
to help them with the expenses we incur all year long in using their
facilities.
ATTENTION UNITS: Start sending us nominations for your unit people!
Dusty, Ed and Rog have only received 3 DLC nomination forms and the Annual
Recognition Event is only 2 months away (Nov. 15). Nomination forms have
been sent out on the e-mail server at Yahoogroups and they are also
available at our district web site at http://www.bsa.net/occo/danbeard.
District Committee Members of the Month: Rhonda Chesson for the Fall Roundup,
Dusty Fletcher, Gary Thorn and Ed Williams for the Round Table Kick-off meal
and Dusty Fletcher for the District's Popcorn Kick-off meeting.
