Opening: Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation - Bob Ratledge

Minutes: August minutes were approved except for: Web page address for BSA is www.bsa.net/occoneechee (AND it is CASE sensitive so use lower case letters).

Introduction of Don Williams (T391 & T790) as the ADC for New Units - his job will be to help new units get going and then to make sure they are nourished.

Commissioner Service - David Hearne: Our new ADC for RT is Mel Nance and Jim McGraw is the BS RT Commissioner and Geri Mangum is staying as the CS RT Commissioner. We have 2 new Unit Commissioners; Hank Cox and Steve Hardy. We are +5 units over last year at this time. Our new RT location, the First United Pentecostal Church of Raleigh at 2312 Lake Wheeler Road, Raleigh, N.C. worked out really nice for the August RT. Thanks to them and Steve Talley for the nice facilities.

Boy Scout Program - Don Schmidt: Sub-Committees reporting:
Camping - W.E. Medlin: W.E. passed out a draft of next year's camping survey and asked for comments/suggestions; please get them back to him. He is going to send out information on National Historic Campsites to all of the troops.
Camporee - Stephen Stewart: Waiting for feedback from units on the plan for the 1999 Spring Camporee.
Advancement - Ed Williams: 29 out of our 31 Troops had advancement. There was no advancement reported for T205, T361 (for the 2nd month) and none for V331.
Eagle Board of Review - Bill Slocumb & Jim McSherry: Last month 5 projects and 6 finals were approved. This month (so far) they have 3 finals and 3 projects.
Training - John Cortese: SMF is next weekend and there are 31 people signed up. If you have someone to put thru SMF contact Susan Long at the Scout Office at 872-4884. The weather at the fall SMF is usually outstanding.

Cub Scout Program - Sub-Committees reporting:
Training - Kathy Connelly: The Tri-District Cub training hosted by Impeesa will occur on September 26. The council's Cub BLT will be on October 10th.
Advancement - Judy Ward: There was no avancement to report; Cubs don't do advancement (normally) during the summer.

OA - Larry Nessly: The September OA meeting will be on Brotherhood and the October meeting will present information on the new Venture Program.

Health & Safety - Steve Merritt: Seven Scouts from T356 showed up for free plane rides at RDU in August. All 7 earned their Aviation Merit Badge. Some Cubs from Pack 200 were there also. The next one is at Johnson Co. airport on September 26; call Steve at 467-5817 if any of your Scouts are interested.

Membership - David Page and Lisa White: Scouting Night is September 10 at 7:30 PM. There are 4 locations: White Plains UM Church for Cary; St. Francis UM Church for Apex/Holly Springs; Fuquay-Varina UM Church for Fuquay-Varina and Garner UM Church for Garner. This is mainly for Cub Scout recruiting. The flyers are presently being delivered to the schools thanks to our volunteers. Lisa needs help in membership to make sure new Cub units get proper training.

Cub Day Camp - Lisa White: We have been asked to plan our Cub Day Camp this year to accomodate the year round school calendar by putting on 2 Cub Day Camps. We would probably have it June 14-18 and then June 28-July 2. It would create facility and volunteer problems. John Slocumb said that it would be put on the November meeting schedule for discussion. Anyone interested in getting their input into this suggestion is encouraged to be at the November meeting.

Activities and Civic Service - Susan Long: There were 108 people at the August RT. We collected about $75 from those folks for the meal and that was used to pay for the food. We therefore have no resources for the Recognition Event in November. Therefore, instead of finger foods we will have cake, punch, coffee and peanuts, etc., to keep costs to an absolute minimum. Susan and David Hearne are trying to get the First United Pentecostal Church for the event.

High Adventure Exploring - Tom Stalker (not present): No report. The Council and Tom are working on the Life Saving Award for the Cape Fear River incident.

Finance - David Page: We have reached 105% of our goal of $145,000 or $152,174 pledged and $99,204 collected to date. Mayor Booth's letter to Cary businesses has to date brought in more than $1000.00.

Popcorn - Ed Williams: There are 22 Packs and 20 Troops signed up to sell popcorn. The supplies will be distributed at the September 17th Round Table. The Unit Popcorn Kernels MUST BE PRESENT at that meeting to get the supplies.

New Business: David Hearne reporting: District recharter is due at the end of October. Bring your checkbook to the October District Committee Meeting (which is the District's Annual Business Meeting).

1998-1999 Nominations Committee - Bob Ratledge: Bob will conduct a break-out session at the September RT to come up with the 1998-1999 nominations list.

Committee Members of the Month: Susan Long, W.E. Medlin & Ed Williams for the OUTSTANDING meal at the August Round Table.

District Executives Minute - David Page: David presented his speech twice at the National Conference in Nashville. There were 5,000 professional Scouters there and he said it was informative and impressive. Our Council will be a Beta test site for Scout Net 2000, a new computer networking product for BSA.

Meeting adjourned at 9:20 pm. Next meeting is on October 7, 1998 at 7:30 PM. This is our Annual Business Meeting where we report on the year's achievements and elect the District Officers for the 1998-1999 Scouting year.
