September 1, 1999

Attendees: Dusty Fletcher, Shari Garrett, David Hearne, Rudy Hines Roger Lear, Jim McSherry, W.E. Medlin, Bob Ratledge, Jeff Rock, Steve Stewart, Judy Ward and Ed Williams (11)

Pledge and Opening: David Hearne, Bob Ratledge and Ed Williams.

August minutes were approved as written.

District Commissioner - David Hearne: Still working on getting some late units rechartered. Jeff Rock is going to give some training to Pack 307 so they may be coming back.

Boy Scout Program Reports:

Camping - W.E. Medlin: No Report.

Advancement - Ed Williams: No report.

Eagle Board - Rudy Hines: In August we had 3 finals approved and 3 projects, 2 of which needed minor revisions. We have 3 finals and 3 projects scheduled for September so far.

Training - John Cortese: Note that as of October 1, 1999, you must be trained via TTT if you are going to teach on a Scout training course. The TTT training is scheduled for September 18 at St. Luke's Church in Sanford, N.C.

Cub Program Reports:

Advancement - Judy Ward: Judy reported 26 Bobcats, 22 Wolves, 40 Bears, 20 Webelos and 31 Arrow of Lights for May and June with 14 units advancing.

Training - Dusty Fletcher for Kathy Connelly: CSBLT will be hosted by Impessa at a 1 day training session on Sept. 25, 1999.

Cub Day Camp: A Cub Day Camp critique meeting was held and some more was discussed about all three of the tri-districts using the Optimist Club Farm for their Cub Day Camps.

Order of the Arrow: No Report.

Health & Safety - Steve Merritt: Steve showed the safety video at the August RT. He is trying to get the cards for those that saw the video.

Activities and Civic Service - Dusty Fletcher: Dusty reported that we fed about 120 people at the August RT and 140 attended. She wanted to thank Dick Fletcher and Ed Williams for their cooking and all of the other committee members for their help. It was a great kickoff event. The recognition event is coming up on November 4 and Dusty is going to need help doing some phone calling, setting up and taking down. She would like the committee members to bring desserts again for the event. We are requesting that all unit leaders start getting the nominations for the DLC and DAofM compiled and submitted. Those have to be in by October 21 (the October RT). If you have questions call Dusty at 387-9205, Ed Williams at 851-1464 or Roger Lear at 467-9391. PLEASE HELP US ON THIS!

Membership - Jeff Rock for Stan Belyeu: Jeff said we had 257 new Cubs sign up on August 26 and they are not all accounted for yet. We only had 238 last year. Great organizing job by Stan Belyeu.

Finance - Jeff Rock: Our council has reached $480,000 in FOS donations. That is much better than we did last year.

Popcorn - Shari Garrett: Shari reported that our district goal of 49 units selling has been reached, with 20 no's and 10 not committed yet. Shari is working on getting a warehouse location (maybe Austin Foods near Morrisville). The council would like to see us sell $238,000 worth of popcorn. If your unit has not committed to sell popcorn and you would like to, call Shari at 844-5089 (home) or 782-1705 (work). The 1999 Popcorn sale starts on September, 27, 1999 (Monday).

Council Camporee - Rudy Hines: Camporee booklets are being mailed and are available on the council Web-site. Pre-registration of units is important if you want to be assured of sufficient room for your unit.

Nominating Committee - Bob Ratledge: Bob and W.E. Medlin are serving on the nominating committee for our 1999-2000 district committee. If you currently hold a position on the commitee Bob needs to know if you are going to continue in that position. You may also want to join the committee in a new position. Call Bob at 557-5688 or W.E. at 552-6554.

New Dan Beard DE - Jeff Rock: Jeff says they are looking at 2 "out of council" professionals to fill the position by October 1, 1999.

New Business - Dusty Fletcher: We collected $182.00 at the August RT Kickoff meal. That money was donated to the First United Pentecostal Church, where we have the Round Tables and other Scout meetings. The donation was made to them as a thank you for them letting us have our meetings there and was given for them to use in any way they pleased.

New Business - Jeff Rock: The council is having a training session for all District Committee positions on October 30, from 9 am to 1 pm. The place has not been decided yet. Committee Members (or prospective committee members) may contact the Scout Office at 872-4884 for more information.

District Committee Members of the Month: Stan Belyeu for his work on the Fall Roundup.
