1. The meeting was called to order by Jerry Jester and Roger Lear led the
Pledge of Allegiance. Everyone introduced themselves, as our Guests were
there to be part of the Annual Business Meeting voting for District Chairman
and for recommending to the Council our choice for District Commissioner.
2. Annual Business Meeting Voting - Rodger Skirvin opened the meeting for our
District in place of Robbie Spivey who could not attend the voting meeting.
There were at least 9 Chartered Organization Representatives (COR) present.
They voted to approve Jonathan Taylor as our District Chairman for 2010 and
they voted to approve recommending Jerry Jester as our District Commissioner
for 2010. The Annual Business Meeting was then closed.
3. The minutes for November 2009 were approved as written. There was no
District Committee meeting in December 2009, as we held the Recognition
Event on the December 3 District Committee meeting date.
4. Membership/Relationships - Rodger Skirvin: We ended up with 2052 Scouts and
our goal was met to have 2% more Scouts than we had at the end of 2008. Our
Council met their Membership goal for 2010 by increasing 1.5%.
5. Finance - Rodger Skirvin: We met our goal of $153,000 for 2009, with Jerry
Jester directing the Family Campaign to bring in more than $103K of the
$153,264 that was collected for 2009. Thank you, Jerry and Commissioners
and helpers. Jerry has agreed to do the Family Campaign again in 2010!
2009 Popcorn Sale - Beckie Dayton: We sold $346,668 worth of popcorn
in the 2009 Popcorn Sale, which was about $2000 less that we sold in 2008.
32 units sold and we sold just less than the 1st place Neuse River District.
Beckie says that she has to have help if she is going to do our 2010 sale.
6. Commissioner Service - Jerry Jester: Commissioners helped get all of our
unit inventories in before 2010. We also met our goal for the number of
Unit Commissioners for 2009. Our Unit Commissioners are helping our units
set their goals for 2010.
7. Order of the Arrow - Gantt Edmiston for Cliff Ward: Gantt covered some of
the OA activities that are coming soon and that are listed in our calendar.
8. Eagle Board of Review - Gantt Edmiston: In 2009 we had a total of 78 Eagles
for the year, which was the most Eagles we have ever had in one year. The
annual Council Eagle Banquet for 2009 is being held on January 23, 2010.
In November of 2009 we had 2 Eagles approved and 10 projects approved. In
December of 2009 we had 10 Eagles approved and 11 Eagle projects approved.
9. Training - Will Highsmith: Will went over some of the upcoming training
events taking place. He will get an e-mail out soon covering them all. He
mentioned the Council District Committee Training event coming up on January
23, 2010 and encouraged all Committee members to register soon and attend.
They are also working with Gantt Edmiston to set up a date for a Merit Badge
Counselor training session.
10. Activities & Civic Service - Chris Thomson: Chris was told of the Scouter
DLC's, DAOM's and Scouting Spirit Awards that are listed on our web site.
All of the Awards information is shown on our web site under the heading of
Crosswinds District Scouter Awards.
There will be information at our next Roundtable on an Easter Seal Walk on
April 10, 2010 from 8am to 1pm that could use some Scouting volunteer help.
Another District Flag Retirement Ceremony event is being planned for April
17, 2010 at the new memorial park in Cary (where it was held last year).
Our District's JAMBO on the Air is being planned for October 16, 2010.
Todd Ellis will be helping head up the event, so if you are interested in
helping or attending, contact Todd.
The District Camporee on April 9-11, 2010 will have a general theme of unit
presentations of events that they would like to do at the Council NC Youth
Expo at the NC State Fairgrounds on April 24, 2010.
11. Scouting for Food - Chris Meyer (via e-mail): Chris reported that our
units have collected about 2000 pounds of food since November of 2009.
He is asking all units to plan a Scouting For Food event for 2010 and to
contact him for getting the information into our District documents.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL DISTRICT COMMITTEE MEMBERS:
The District Committee Planning Meeting for 2010 and 2011 will be held
on Saturday, February 13 starting at about 8am. The location is yet to
be determined and will transmitted to our District when it is finalized.
Please make sure to put this date on your calendars and plan on attending.
Committee Member of the Month: Gary Thorn and all of the Scouting adults who
helped the Committee put on a very sucessful 2009 District Recognition Event.
