1. The meeting was called to order by Jerry Jester and the Pledge of Allegiance
was led by Jerry Jester.
2. The minutes for February 2009 were approved as written.
3. Finance - Rodger Skirvin: Of our $153K FOS goal we have reached $64,522;
Major Gifts $9340, Community Campaign $144 and Family Campaign $55,038.
4. Membership/Relationships - Bill Reynolds: May 2 we will have a Cub
recruiting activity and on May 14 a group recruiting meeting. They are
going to use tiered recruiting prizes and print up brochures. We have 962
Cubs, 1007 Boy Scouts, 41 Explorers, 39 Venturers and 10 Sea Scouts for a
total of 2059 Scouts. We have 23 Packs, 27 Troops/Teams, 4 Crews, 1 Ship
and 2 Explorer units for a total of 57 units. A copy of the Council's new
Membership Playbook in present on our web site.
5. Training - Will Highsmith: There will be a March 14 training session from
8am to 5pm at the LDS Church for SM, TC and Varsity leaders. Refer to the
Council Training calendar for more information. Will will keep us informed
as to how the training inventory proceeds.
6. Activities & Civic Service - Chris Thomson: Chris reported that our new
Cub RT Chairman, Rob Ruck, has agreed to head up a 2009 District Cub-O-Ree
at Camp Durant on October 23-25, 2009. Our District units will also take
part in the July 3 Bond Park activities and in the July 4 Regency Park
activites and in the April 18 flag retirement activity with Bill Reynolds
heading that activity.
Chris Meyer, our District Scouting For Food Co-Chair, reported that we have
had units active in SFF drives and that they collected 7,648 pounds of food
in February, for a total so far for 2009 of 11,711 pounds of food and $1660
in donations that were used to buy food credit cards or food.
Bill Reynolds, who is helping Matt Miersen and Jeff Farlow, with the 2009
Pinewood Derby plans, reported that they will need help on the registration
desk and with the running of the races on March 7, 2009. Matt Miersen had
to move the derby start from 7am to 2pm since some schools are making up a
snow day on the morning of March 7. Beckie Dayton will be selling left over
popcorn at a kiosk next to the Pinewood Derby location at the Cary Towne
Center Mall. The popcorn remaining after that sale will be sent to our
Armed Forces in the mid-East.
7. Eagle Board of Review - Gantt Edmiston (via e-mail): The February 2009
Crosswinds EBOR approved 8 Eagle Ranks and reviewed and approved 4 Eagle
projects and rejected 1 project.
8. Commissioner Service - Jerry Jester: They are finishing up the plans for
2009. The Charter Turn-In is scheduled for March 19 at our RoundTable.
Basic Commissioner Training has been scheduled for March 21 by the council.
The NC Veterinary School is interested in starting a merit badge class for
our Council's scouts. We will provide information as we receive it.
SECOND NOTICE:
There will be no RoundTable held on April 16, 2009. Our Scouts and
Scouters are encouraged to attend the opening ceremonies for the Camp
Durant Grand Lodge. Tickets are $10 and include a patch and dinner. Your
registriation MUST be in by April 9, 2009. Details are in a flyer on our
Council's Web Site News at http://www.ocscouts.org .
The April 2, 2009 District Committee Meeting will be held in the Cary Baptist
Church's Annex #3 (our normal location) unless we announce otherwise.
Committee Member of the Month: Chris and Kristin Meyer for their continued
good work as our District Scouting For Food leaders.
