BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
OCCONEECHEE COUNCIL
CROSSWINDS DISTRICT
Robert Spivey Susan Long Martin Banning
District Chairman District Commissioner District Executive
Attendees: Bob Gamble, Jerry Jester, Roger Lear, Lu Little, Susan Long, Jim McGraw,
Bill Reynolds, Suzie Slopek, Robbie Spivey, Chris Thomson, Gary Thorn,
Ed Walsh and Ron Werley (13).
1. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robbie Spivey.
2. The March 2006 minutes were approved as written.
3. Commissioner Service - Susan Long; Charters for 45 out of 46 units are in
and have been approved. 77% of our units are Quality Units. Susan gives her
thanks to the Commissioner staff for the great job they did in getting the
charters in and approved.
Roundtable - Jerry Jester: We will not have any food at our remaining
Roundtables as we have lost money each time we have served the food.
4. Activities & Civic Service - Chris Thomson: A Pack member has offered to
Chair our 2007 Pinewood Derby. There were only about 6 units interested
In a uniform sale this year, out of our 40 units. She will put the units
Interested in a uniform sale in contact with each other. There also seems
to be no unit interest in units sponsoring needy families at Christmas.
Chris would like to revive something like our old Mall Expos in February or
March of 2007.
5. Camporee – Bob Gamble; Bob reported that there are about 412 youth and 108
adults signed up for our April BS Camporee. The Cub Cub-O-Ree has about
158 Cubs, 160 adults and 14 siblings signed up for the April Cub-O-Ree.
Ed Walsh reported that the patches and streamers were in and were ok. Jim
McGraw has the program part of the Camporee ready to go.
6. Scouting for Food – Roger Lear; Roger reported that Cindy Smith has been
In contact with several units interested in doing Scouting for Food. Roger
sent out an e-mail notifying the units when and where to turn in the food
and where it could be delivered if they did not turn it in at the old Pizza
Hut on Kildaire Farm Road.
7. 2007 Recognition Event – Gary Thorn; After some discussion it was decided
that next year’s Recognition Event will be held in October in place of the
October Roundtable.
8. Membership/Relationships - Bill Reynolds: We dropped 3 units (C131, C212
and P225), so we need to add at least 4 units this year. We are 364 Scouts
short of last year so we have a lot of recruiting to do. The Cary
Springfest on April 20, 2006 will have a recruiting booth for Scouting. The
Cub Tiger Fun Day on June 10, 2006 will have a flyer coming out soon.
9. Training – Suzie Slopek; Suzie reported that there are many training events
coming up in April, May and June. Look at the Council website Training
Calendar to see the dates and the flyers.
10. Health and Safety – Jim McGraw; Jim and Ed Walsh have planned to have a
Health and Safety training event at one of our upcoming Roundtables.
11. Finance – Jerry Jester; The Family Campaign is only $3,000 short of the goal
and we have met our total District goal already. We were the first District
to reach their finance goal this year. Thanks Jerry and Martin and all others.
12. Advancement – Tom Allen and Gantt Edmiston (via-e-mail); There were 6
Eagle Ranks approved and 6 Eagle projects approved.
Committee Member of the Month: Susan Long and the entire Commissioner’s Staff
For the great job they did with the 2006 unit re-chartering.
