Crosswinds District Committee Meeting Minutes
April 3, 2008

			     BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
			      OCCONEECHEE COUNCIL
			      CROSSWINDS DISTRICT

Jonathan Taylor Jerry Jester Martin Banning
District Chairman District Commissioner District Director

Attendees: Martin Banning, Beckie Dayton, Will Highsmith, Jerry Jester,
Roger Lear, Monte McCaw, Anne McVeigh, Bill Reynolds,
Jonathan Taylor, Gary Thorn and Ed Walsh (11)

1. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Martin Banning.	Martin then introduced
Eagle Scout Jonathan H. Taylor to the District Committee. Jonathan is our
new District Committee Chairman. Jonathan is the Managing Partner of
Everest Group, LLC here in Cary, NC. The Committee welcomes him and thanks
him in advance for taking on the Chairmanship of a very active and vital
   district. Welcome aboard Jonathan!

To our past District Committee Chairman, Robbie Spivey, we say thank you
Robbie for the great job you have done in steering our District to our
continued successes for the past 4 years and 3 months. We know you will
stay as active as you can with our District and Troop 210. We salute you
   for a job well done!

2. The minutes for March 2008 were approved as written. Jerry Jester stated
again that the Scouting word "Roundtable" is one word and not "Round Table".
After debating it and looking at many other Scout web sites, we have to
agree that the word in Scouting is "Roundtable" and so we shall use the one
word from now on. Changes to existing calendars, reminders, will be done
when we have other changes to make.	Jerry deserves to be right once in a
   while!

3. Training - Will Highsmith: IOLS had some really nasty weather for their
first weekend. They hope for better weather for April 11-12 at Reeves, but
Scoutmaster Ed Walsh says their 9 staff has dropped to 4 staff and they need
help badly from any Scouter that will help.	They don't need trainers, just
staff people to help with support functions on April 12th. E-mail Ed at
ltcw@bellsouth.net or call him at 303-9737 if you can help!

Will also said that they need help on the May 31 Boy Scout Leader Specific
course as they are short there also. The class is at Cary 1st Baptist from
7:30am registration to 5pm for a cost of $15. See ocscouts.org and training
calendar and flyer for particulars.	They are trying to organize a traveling
training team that could serve units that need specific training quickly.

4. Finance - Martin Banning: We are at $122K of our $150K FOS finance campaign
goal. Major Gifts FOS Breakfast got $64K, goal was $53K (good job Martin
and others involved!). BB&T Community Campaign is at $2K of $5K goal and
our Family Campaign (Jerry Jester) is at $58K of $92.25K goal.

The Council Capital Campaign is looking to Crosswinds to provide $20K and we
already have $4-5K.	Dig deep Scouters and help us hit the $20K mark!

Camp Fees are going up because it costs more to maintain modern facilities
like flush toilets and showers. In the past the FOS goal has been to get
$120 from the parents for each boy in Scouting that year. Part of that $120
was to support the maintenance of our Council Camps. The Council Committee
of Scouters felt that it would be better to start a $2/weekend charge for
each Scout camping at Camp Durant, rather than up the yearly FOS goals.
Some people on our District Committee felt that it would have been better
to go up on the FOS goal. They were asked to contact the Council if they
wanted to debate it further, but right now it is a new set policy.

5. Membership/Relationships - Bill Reynolds: Cub Spring Roundup is coming up
and the units will be doing the Roundups at their own locations. We are
going to lose 2 Cub Packs and 3 Venture Crews, so we need to make up those
loses with a good Spring Roundup and an emphasis on starting Venture Crews.

6. Boy Scout Camporee - Ed Walsh: We have 650 Scouts and Scouters signed up
for the April Eatoree. Only 5 Troops have not registered and they need to
go on our web site and access the on-line registration.

7. Activities & Civic Service - Martin Banning for Chris Thomson: The annual
Council ScoutReach Golf Tournament will be held at Prestonwood Golf course
on April 21. Get a group of your unit's golfers to sign up for some great
fun and to help the Council.

The Scouting for Food program for Crosswinds stands at 8895 pounds so far.
If your unit has not done Scouting For Food yet this year, you need to
contact Chris or Kristin Meyer (meyerchr@nc.rr.com) and sign up!

If your unit wants to volunteer to take part in the April 26 Cary Spring
Daze at Bond Park you need to contact Spring Daze Information at 469-4061 as
Chris said she only got one unit to sign up to help and she tried many.

8. Eagle Board of Review - Gantt Edmiston (via e-mail): The March Crosswinds
EBOR approved 1 Eagle Rank and 6 projects.

9. District Commissioner - Jerry Jester: Jerry said that all of our units
re-chartered on time. He wants to thank all the Commissioner's Staff and
the units for making that happen!

He also wanted to remind the units that he has asked his Commissioner Staff
to go to the Eatoree and camp with their unit if they can. He would like to
see his Staff go spend a day/night at Summer Camp with their unit also. He
said the Commissioner Staff should help out with the Eatoree Programs at the
   April 25-27 Camporee.

Committee Member of the Month:	Ralph Ashworth and Steve Zaytoun for their work
on the Crosswinds FOS Breakfast.
