1. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robbie Spivey.
2. The Crosswinds District minutes for April 2005 were approved as written.
3. Membership/Relationships - Bill Reynolds: Martin reported that BSA info
had been distributed to the schools for kindergarden thru the 5th grade.
Five of our Cub units are recruiting on May 17 and May 19. Fall Cub
Roundup dates are; Sept. 8 and Sept. 13. June 7 is the Cub Roundup Kickoff
at the Harrell Youth Center at the NC State Fairgrounds, with a 6:30pm meal
and the meeting at 7pm. Our current registration is 731 Cub Scouts, 781 Boy
Scouts and 24 Venture Scouts.
4. Commissioner Service - Susan Long: Susan will have unit roster printouts
at the May RoundTable when we will start our Spring inventory of units.
NOTE: If you are on the District Committee, you need to be registered as
part of the Committee, even if you are dual-registered with a unit.
NOTE: We also discussed the Recognition Event for 2005 which will be held
starting at 6:15pm for the refreshments on October 20, 2005 (no RoundTable).
WE NEED SOMEONE TO HEAD UP THE EVENT! If you are interested in doing this
for the District, please contact Susan Long immediately. Nominations for
Scouter DLC's and AOM's are due in by the August 18 or September 15 RT.
RoundTable ADC - Gary Thorn: We had 42 attendees at the April RoundTable.
41 of our units (out of 52) have been represented at RT so far this year.
Tom Stalker has agreed to do Safety Afloat and Safe Swim Defense at May RT.
Discussion was held about the August 2005 RT Kick-off. It was decided that
we will have BBQ sandwiches, chips, etc. and that the Committee members will
provide desserts. The dinner will start at 6:30pm. The Cub Roundup meeting
will be held during the break between supper and RT start at 7:30pm.
More planning will be done on this by the District Commissioner's Staff.
Boy Scout RoundTable Commissioner - Jerry Jester: We have set the date for
the 2006 Spring Boy Scout Camporee, which will be on April 28-30, 2006.
5. Finance - Martin Banning: The Community Campaign is at $2K, Major Gifts at
$39K and Family Campaign at $73.5K for a total of $114.5K.
Popcorn - Beckie Dayton: Trail's End Popcorn has put out a board game for
our popcorn sellers. District Kernel Training will be held at Camp Durant
on May 14 for 1 hour (during the Council Program Planning sessions) and
information on the sale will be handed out.
6. Activities and Civic Service - Open position - No report.
7. Cub Scout Program - Open position:
2005 Cub Scout Family Campout - Chris Siegl & Beckie Dayton: Chris & Beckie
want to thank all those Cubbers and parents who stepped in to help with the
Cub Scout Family Campout. The date has been set for the 2006 Cub Family
Campout, which will be held at Camp Durant on April 21-23, 2006.
Cub Scout Advancement - Pam Sen: No report.
2006 Cub Day Camp - Martin Banning: Martin said that Week #1 and #3 are
filling up fast for the Wake County Cub Day Camp and about 600 have pre-
registered. Week #2 is already filled up.
8. Boy Scout Program - Ed Walsh:
2005 Council Camporee on October 7-9, 2005 is being headed up by Jerry
Jester as the Camporee Chief & Ed Walsh is the Program Chairman. NOTE:
We are looking for people to help them - please help! Their will be a
Merit Badge Midway and each of the 13 Districts will be responsible for
an activity. More information will be given as it develops.
Boy Scout Camporee - Jerry Jester: We had 415 Scouts and 131 Scouters for
a total of 546 at our 1st all Crosswinds Camporee. The weather was great
and the cooking contest was a big success. We also had Troop 352 from the
Falls District visiting at our camporee. The OA Tapout was very impressive.
Crosswinds Scout-O-Rama - Jerry Jester: Plans are continuing for our first
in a long time Scout-O-Rama on March 31 - April 2, 2006 at Bond Park in
Cary. Jerry is working on getting a show & tell program which will
encompass EMS/Rescue work/Scuba, etc. If you want to help Jerry please
contact him.
Boy Scout Advancement - Tom Doligalski: Troop 201 and 531 have reported no
advancement for this year.
Eagle Board of Review - Tom Doligalski for Tom Allen: The April EBOR
approved 3 Eagle Ranks and 7 projects and 2 projects are under review.
9. Order of the Arrow - Tom Doligalski: Spring Inductions were completed and
every unit was contacted to put forward candidates. Out of 106 elected
youth members, 80 were tapped out at the Camporee. NOTE: There were many
adult Scouters tapped out also, but some unit Troop Committee's have NOT
submitted any paperwork for their adult candidates. Those adult Scouters
will not be allowed into OA until that information is received by the OA.
10. Venturing - Bill Fairhurst: The April NRA rifle class was very well
attended. There will be a Shotgun class held in August.
A wilderness First Aid class will be held on May 14. Cost is $45 (normally
costs 4 times as much). Interested Venturers should contact Bill.
11. Training - Suzie Slopek: An IOLS class (Session 1) will be held on
September 17 at Camp Bonsal. Ed Walsh is the Course Director. The
second and third sessions will be held on October 14 and 15 at Camp Reeves.
On May 21, 2005 there will be SM/ASM specific training at Cary 1st Baptist
Church. It is an all day course and is sponsored by the Crosswinds
Training Team. Cost is $15.00 and times are from 7:30am to 5:00pm.
On May 25, 2005 there will be a Cub Scouter meeting at the Council Service
Center at 7pm until 8:30pm for a session of brainstorming ideas to improve
the Cub Scout Leader training program which will occur as part of the
Occoneechee Council University of Scouting which will be held at Wake Tech
on Novmember 12, 2005 (it will replace the Council Cub Pow Wow).

12. Camping and activities are available at the New Hope Valley Railway in
Bonsal, NC for Scouting programs. Contact Bob Crowley at
nhvry@mindspring.com if you have an interest in camping or railway
activities (including train rides) on any of the following dates:
NOTE: Dates and activities must be cleared by the NHVRY Board, so make
sure you contact Bob well in advance of the dates you want to use!
June 18-19, 25-26, July 9-10, 23-24, 30-31, August 13-14, 20-21, 27,29,
September 10-11, 17-18 (IOLS course), October 8-9, 22-23,
November 12-13, 19-20 and January 7-8, 14-15, and 28-29, 2006.
Some activities may require staffing which will need to be recruited.
