				   OCCONEECHEE COUNCIL
				   CROSSWINDS DISTRICT

Robert Spivey Susan Long Martin Banning
District Chairman District Commissioner District Executive

Attendees: Bob Gamble, William Highsmith, Jerry Jester, Roger Lear, Lu Little,
Susan Long, Jim McGraw, Monte McCaw, Bill Reynolds, Suzie Slopek,
Robbie Spivey, Gary Thorn and Ed Walsh (13).

1. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robbie Spivey. Robbie asked Jerry to give
all of us an update on Martin Banning’s back condition. They still don’t know
exactly what is wrong, but Martin is at home and better than he was. The
Committee passed around and signed a get well card for Martin.

2. The April 2006 minutes were approved as written.

3. Commissioner Service - Susan Long; The Commissioners are in the process of
Rechartering Pack 205 and some of our Posts. There were 7 UC’s assisting at
the Cub Scout Cub-O-Ree and 7 UC’s assisting at the Boy Scout Camporee.
The Committee wants to thank all of them for their help.

ADC Report – Jerry Jester; Jerry has recruited a Scouter with 46 years of
experience, who has just moved into our area, to become the new Scoutmaster
for one of our new Troops, which we think will be Troop number 224.

Roundtable – Gary Thorn: We had 46 Scouters in attendance at the April
   Roundtable at Cary Presbyterian Church.

4. Vice-Chairman – Bob Gamble;	Bob and Robbie are going to start recruiting
Scouters from our units to help fill the Committee positions for 2007.

5. Camporee – Ed Walsh; Ed reported that we had 414 Scouts and 132 adults from
16 Troops at the 2006 Boy Scout Camporee at Camp Reeves. The Camporee took
In $5506 and the expenses were $5266. Those were the latest figures he could
put together. We also collected $243 for the World Brotherhood of Scouting.
Ed thanked everyone, especially Jim McGraw and Bob Gamble, for all the hard
work they did in putting the successful Camporee together.

6. Scouting for Food – Roger Lear for Cindy Smith; Roger reported that latest
figures are with 5 Packs and 5 Troops participating, a total of 7,577 pounds
of food was collected and distributed to the various food banks in Wake County.
The Council reported to us that they had to pay a $156 US Postal fine because
one or more of our units put 400 food flyers in or on residential mail boxes.
A note was sent to our District Scouters notifying them of the problem.

7. Training – Suzie Slopek; Suzie again reported that there are many training events
coming up this summer and fall. Look at the Council website Training
Calendar to see the dates and the flyers. William Highsmith reported that there
will be a Basic Scout Leader Training session at St. Andrew’s church on May 6.

8. Finance – Jerry Jester for Martin Banning; Jerry reported that our District
   Family Goal has passed $80,000.00.

9. Membership/Relationships - Bill Reynolds: Bill needs help in getting the
bulletins our for the Cub Recruiting Drive and into the churches and private
schools in our area as soon as we can. Spring Roundup will be held on June 5
   at the NC State Fairgrounds.

10. Order of the Arrow – Monte McCaw; Monte reported that the Occoneechee Lodge
104 received the coveted Spirit Award at the recent Southern Regional Conclave.
The Netami Pre-Ordeal Ceremony Team won 2nd place in the contest at the Conclave.
It was suggested by the Camporee Staff that the OA provide a youth or adult
member as a part of the 2007 Camporee planning group. That way things like
Trading Post, Flag raisings and lowerings, fire building and extinguishing,
Sunday Service plans and the “tap-out” can be planned in advance and not done
at the last minute as we have sometimes done in the past. Monte agreed that
that was a good idea and that he would bring it up at the next OA meeting.

11. Advancement – Tom Allen and Gantt Edmiston (via-e-mail); There were 7 Eagle
Ranks approved and 4 Eagle projects approved in April.

12. White Water Rafting – Bob Gamble; Bob has been made aware of a possible
advantage for Troops wanting to do some rafting. A firm is making available
a fairly low cost Friday night and Saturday rafting trip at a cost of about
$100 plus transportation. Bob will report more on this at the Roundtable.

Committee Members of the Month: Rudy Rowell and Beckie Dayton for their work on
the Cub-O-Ree and Ed Walsh, Jim McGraw and Bob Gamble for their work on the Boy
Scout Camporee.
