1. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Roger Lear.
2. The minutes for April 2007 were approved as written.
3. Membership/Relationships - Bill Reynolds: The Cary Spring Daze Scouting
promotion at Bond Park had about 200 kids involved in running the
raingutter regatta and Pinewood Derby cars. Bill said they talked to about
25 sets of parents. They are working on Martin's suggestion of having a
summer breakfast for ministers of the churches in our District that do not
sponsor a Scouting unit and having speakers and Scouters talk to them.
Doug Mall and Martin are working on a Webelos-to-Scout transition program
to help us find out why we are losing Webelos who are not going into Scouts.
4. Training - William Highsmith: William says 40 Scouters have signed up for
this Saturday's training course at Cary First Baptist Church. William is
looking at doing a Scoutmaster course in June and a Den Chief training
course about the same time.
5. 2007 BS Spring Camporee - Bob Gamble: The Camporee was a huge success and
all the money has been turned in and the account closed.
6. Finance - Martin Banning: Our goal of $145,000 is progressing well. We are
at 99% of our Major Gifts goal and at 103% of our Family Campaign goal. The
Community Campaign is going to be boosted by Martin and Jerry going door to
door at businesses in our District.
2007 Popcorn Sale - Beckie Dayton: Beckie says that she is personally going
to aim for $325,000 in sales for our District for this year. The Council is
going back to Keller Marketing for the popcorn prizes. All of the popcorn
this year is going to be Trans fat free. Prices and weights are the same
this year as last year.
7. Commissioner Service - Jerry Jester: Commissioner Service is getting ready
to start our unit inventories at our May RT at Saint Andrew's.
Round Table ADC - Gary Thorn: Gary reported that the May Round Table will
be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Church. The Boy Scout Program will be
Tom Stalker doing his yearly water safety and Safety Afloat presentation.
The June Round Table will be held in the dining hall at First Baptist Church
in Cary.
8. Eagle Board of Review - Gantt Edmiston (via e-mail): The April EBOR
approved 2 Eagle Ranks and 3 projects.
9. 2007 JOTA - Chris Tompson: Chris said that we will have a JOTA on October
20, 2007 and Ed Walsh is to confirm that we can use the parking lot
at St. Andrew. We might also have a ham station setup at Lazy Days again.
10. 2007 Scouting for Food - Martin Banning: Martin is going to investigate
with the Packs and Troops to see if they will sign up for doing the
Scouting for Food one month of the year, instead of everyone collecting
once a year. He hopes that this will promote Cub Scout transistion to Boy
Scouts. He is also trying to get some units to set up a lemonade stand on
June 7-9 at a local business.
Committee Member of the Month: Roger Lear for his work as District Secretary
and Crosswinds Webmaster.
