Crosswinds District Committee Meeting Minutes
May 7, 2009

Attendees: Beckie Dayton, Todd Ellis, Will Highsmith, Jerry Jester, Roger Lear,
	   Lu Little, Bill Reynolds, Suzie Slopek, Rodger Skirvin,
	   Chris Thomson, Gary Thorn and Ed Walsh (12),

1. The meeting was called to order by Jerry Jester and the Pledge of Allegiance
   was led by Roger Lear.  Rodger Skirvin led the Committee in prayer.

2. The minutes for April 2009 were approved as written.

3. Jerry introduced Mike McConnell, one of his Unit Commissioners and our guest
   Nick Long, who is the Occoneechee Council VP of District Operations.  Nick
   is trying to visit at one of each of our 12 District's Committee meetings.

4. Finance - Rodger Skirvin - Our FOS is at $127,099.  Community at $215,
   Family at $75,139 and Major Gifts at $51,745.  Our Goal is $153,000, so we
   are at 83% of our goal.

   2009 Popcorn Sale - Beckie Dayton:  Beckie needs a 10,000+ square foot
   warehouse for the September 26 to October 31 Popcorn Sale.  It has to be
   lockable.  Popcorn will come in Sept. 24 at 6:30am and then on Nov. 19 for
   the Take Order Popcorn delivery.

5. Membership/Relationships - Bill Reynolds and Rodger Skirvin:  We are 100%
   re-chartered unit wise.  We have 60 units and 1784 Scouts.  Two new units
   are coming on line, Morrisville FD Post and a Peace Presbyterian Crew.
   Bill is planning on a Spring Round-Up in May and June.

6. Training - Will Highsmith:  The April Cub Scout and Venture training had
   about 40 in attendance.  He needs cooks for the May 16 Balou class.	He is
   going to investigate the September 26 Mega Training date as that is the
   start date for our 2009 Popcorn Sale.  The training records information
   database is now working ok.

7. Activities & Civic Service - Chris Thomson:	The Flag Retirement ceremonies
   on April 18 had 23 youth in attendance from 11 Packs and 12 Troops and 5-7
   adults.  It went very well and was written up in the free magazine Cary
   Living, for May and a picture and words are found on page 79.  They want to
   try to do it next year in June and our host is willing to do it again.  On
   July 3 and 4 they need Scouts and Leaders for the Bond Park and Regency Park
   Honor Guards.  The Jamboree-On-The-Air will be held October 17.  In November
   Bobbi Stanley will head up the District's activites at the Veteran's Day
   Parade.  October 8-10 is the Council Camporee at Camp Reeves and October 23
   to 25 will be the Council Cub Camporee at Camp Durant.  April 24, 2010 has
   been set for the Council Scout-O-Rama at the State Fairgrounds.

   Scouting For Food - Chris Meyer (via e-mail):  Pack 201 collected 362 lb. of
   food in March and gave it to the NC Food Bank.  Troop 431 collected 702 lb.
   of food in April and donated it to the Fuquay-Varina Emergency Food Pantry.
   Troop 213 collected 3000 lb. of food in May and delivered it to the Cary
   Christian Community in Action and they have more to collect yet!  That's a
   total of more than 2 tons of food for the needy in 3 months.  Our units
   have collected more than 15,000 pounds and $1660 in monetary donations in
   2009.  Great jobs units (and Chris)!

8. NESA - Todd Ellis:  He is concerned that there is still no Council NESA
   representative.  He is going to talk to the Council again about trying to
   get someone into that position.

9. Eagle Board of Review - Gantt Edmiston (via e-mail):  There were 7 Eagles
   approved in April and 6 projects were approved and 1 was rejected.

10. Commissioner Service - Jerry Jester:  The April 16 Grand Lodge opening was
    a great sucess.  You can look on CampDurant.com to see pictures from the
    dedication and Channel 5 archives for Greg Fishel's broadcast from there.
    They will be starting inventory at the May RoundTable.  Our District is
    100% re-chartered and 96% of the re-charters were done via the internet.
    There are 1900 signed up for our 2009 Summer Camp and the first 3 weeks are
    totally booked with only week four having some vacancies.

11. OA Chapter Advisor Nomination - Rodger Skirvin:  Rodger says that they will
    name an OA Chapter Advisor for our District within the next few weeks.

 The June 4, 2009 District Committee Meeting will be held in the Cary Baptist
 Church's Annex #3 (our normal location) unless we announce otherwise.

 Committee Member of the Month: Chris Thomson for her work these past months.
