Crosswinds District Committee Meeting Minutes
June 6, 2006

				  BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
				   OCCONEECHEE COUNCIL
				   CROSSWINDS DISTRICT

Robert Spivey Susan Long Martin Banning
District Chairman District Commissioner District Executive

Attendees: Martin Banning, Keith Biegert, Bob Gamble, William Highsmith,
Jerry Jester, Roger Lear, Lu Little, Susan Long, Gary Thorn,
Chris Thomson, Ed Walsh and Ron Werley (12).

1. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jerry Jester. Martin Banning gave us an
update on his back condition and he is scheduled for more exams in July. He
is trying to be at the Scout Office at least 2 days a week.	The rest of the
time he is working from home.

2. The May 2006 minutes were approved as written.

3. Commissioner Service - Susan Long; All of the Council Program packets have
been delivered to our units. At the May Commissioners meeting they
discussed the Unit Trainer's Position. The Council HR Committee is asking
that EVERY UNIT have a Unit Trainer (or Training Coordinator). Therefore,
the District Commissioner would like to have every unit designate a person
   to be in that position.

*** NOTE TO ALL UNITS: ***
Please provide to Susan Long, or your Unit Commissioner, the name of someone
in your unit structure to be designated as the Unit Training Coordinator.
The Council would contact that person to make sure that every unit leader
has had the proper training for their position.

It was also suggested that the unit Advancement person use the unit password
to get into the records and verify their current unit roster. If someone
has joined and their name does not appear on the roster, please contact
Jerry Jester to have that Scout or Scouter added to the roster. The rosters
cannot be updated on-line. If someone has left the unit you do not have to
   have that fact recorded.

Susan mentioned that Commissioner's College is on November 4, 2006 probably
at Edenton Street UMC and the fee may be $25.00 per person.
The University of Scouting is on November 11, 2006 and you can register
right now on the Council website.

ADC Report - Jerry Jester; Ed Walsh notified us that we cannot hold our RT
next March and April at our normal location. He and Jerry are looking for
   another location for those RoundTables.

Roundtable - Gary Thorn: We had 97 Scouters in attendance at the May RT.
The attendees represented 75% of our units and 33% were first timers. We
sure wish we could get that kind of turnout every month!

4. Membership - Martin Banning for Bill Reynolds:  We currently have 46 units;
21 Packs, 21 Troops and 4 Venturing Crews. Our membership is 710 Cub
Scouts, 859 Boy Scouts and 17 Venturers for a total of 1586 Scouts.	They
are working on getting 4 new units organized.

Bill e-mailed us and asked us to remind leaders of the Tiger Cub Fun Day at
Crabtree Lake Park at the White Oak Pavilion from 9am until 2pm on June 10.

Bill also reported that our Spring Roundup only netted about 26 Cub Scouts.
Bill felt, that overall, it was not a very successful Roundup.

5. Camporee LOST and FOUND - Ed Walsh and Bob Gamble; We are still in
possession of 3 Scout knives found at the Camporee.	If you come to the June
RoundTable and see Ed or Bob and describe the knife, you can re-claim it.

6. Training - William Highsmith for Suzie Slopek; William reported that they
were still tabulating the poll done at the last training sessions on what
our units specifically want in training.

7. Finance - Martin Banning; Martin reported that we have pledges for $132,000
which is more than $6,000 above our District's goals. Thanks to everyone for
   helping us reach our goals.

8. 2006 Popcorn Sale - Beckie Dayton; Beckie reported via e-mail the Council's
schedule for the sale: August 15 - Unit sign up, Sept. 15 - Show-N-Sell
orders due, Sept. 29 or 30 Show-N-Sell Distribution.
Sale would start on September 30, 2006 and end on November 3, 2006.
Nov. 7 - Orders Due, Nov. 17 or 18 - Take Order Distribution and
Dec. 15 - Popcorn money turn-in. Please remember these are the Council
dates and NOT our District dates, which would be somewhat earlier.

Beckie also noted that prizes this year are going to be from Trail's End,
not Keller Marketing. Some prices are up, but no change in package weights.
There is a new $50 tin for chocolate lovers, dark chocolate and white
chocolate pretzels and chocolate popcorn. This year there will be an order
form for parents and one for the Scouts. 72% of the population has never
been approached by a Scout to buy popcorn.

John Phares also would like a video of each unit's popcorn kick-off. Units
providing a video would be in a drawing with a prize of $500 Scout Bucks.
If you are interested, contact John at the Scout Office and find out what
   you need to do.

9. Advancement - Tom Allen and Gantt Edmiston (via-e-mail); There were 7
Eagle Ranks approved and 11 Eagle projects reviewed on May 10, 4 projects
were approved, and 7 needed more work.

10. Camping & Outdoors Promotion - Bob Gamble;	Bob is addressing ways to
improve Chapter meetings in purpose and interest. They hope to get more
representation from units at the Chapter meetings as right now only a few
    units are represented.

Committee Member of the Month: Gantt Edmiston for his RoundTable presentation
on the new on-line advancement process.

Please REMEMBER, there is no District Committee Meeting or Round Table in July!
