Attendees: Jerry Jester, Roger Lear, Lu Little, Mike McConnell, Chris Meyer,
Bill Reynolds, Rodger Skirvin and Jonathan Taylor (8).
1. The meeting was called to order by Johnathan Taylor and the Pledge of
Allegiance was led by Jerry Jester.
2. The minutes for May 2009 were approved as written.
3. Jerry introduced Brian Barber, our guest from Nationwide Insurance Company,
who spoke to us about a Nationwide group discount program plan.
4. Finance - Rodger Skirvin - Our FOS is at $151,249. Our Family Campaign,
headed up by Jerry Jester, is at $98,588 with less than $2,000 to reach his
Family Goal of $100,000 and he has about 3 Troops to visit. Our FOS Goal is
$153,000,
2009 Popcorn Sale - Rodger Skirvin for Beckie Dayton: We still need a
10,000+ square foot warehouse for the 9/26 to 10/31 Popcorn Sale. It has to be
lockable and have a loading dock.
5. Membership/Relationships - Bill Reynolds: The www.Race2Scouts.com
recruiting web site is being completely redesigned. Bill said that he hoped
it would be up and running soon. We will be participating in Cary Lazy Days
again this year to advertise Scouting in our District. The Membership
Training session that Bill held was attended by 12 of our 22 Packs. We
currently have 1780 Scouts, 964 adult Leaders and 58 units.
6. Training - Lu Little: The September Mega Training is scheduled to be held
at Cary First Baptist Church. Unit Leader Training Records need to be
turned in to our District as soon as possible so they can be entered in the
training records database.
7. Activities & Civic Service - Chris Meyer for Chris Thomson: The July 3 and
July 4 ceremonies, headed up by Beckie Dayton, still need some Scouts.
Scouting For Food - Chris Meyer: Our District Scouts and Scouters have
collected 17,722 pounds of food. Our goal for the year is 20,000 pounds.
The Scouting For Food ribbons have been ordered for participating units.
8. Eagle Board of Review - Gantt Edmiston (via e-mail): In May there were 9
Eagle Ranks approved and there were 6 projects approved.
9. Commissioner Service - Jerry Jester: Jerry reported that he now has 25
active Unit Commissioners, which is more than our District recommended
amount. The Unit Commissioners will attend the unit meetings and introduce
themselves.
10. OA Chapter Advisor Nomination - Rodger Skirvin: Rodger says that they have
selected Cliff Ward as the new OA Chapter Advisor for our District.
11. 100th Scouting Anniversary in 2010 - Rodger Skirvin: Rodger briefly talked
about the many special Scouting events that will be taking place in our
Council next year.
REMINDER: We do NOT have a District Committee Meeting in July. Our next
District Committee Meeting will be on August 6, 2009 and will be
held at the Cary Baptist Church Annex, unless you hear otherwise.
Committee Members of the Month: Tom Allen and Gantt Edmiston for their
outstanding work as our District's Eagle Board of Review leaders.
