Crosswinds District Committee Meeting Minutes
August 7, 2008

			     BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
			      OCCONEECHEE COUNCIL
			      CROSSWINDS DISTRICT

Jonathan Taylor Jerry Jester Martin Banning
District Chairman District Commissioner District Director

Attendees: Beckie Dayton, Todd Ellis, Will Highsmith, Jerry Jester, Roger Lear,
Lu Little, Bill Reynolds, Jonathan Taylor, Chris Thomson and
	   Gary Thorn (10)

1. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Roger Lear.

2. The minutes for May 2008 were approved as written. We did not have a
District Committee meeting on June 5, 2008 due to the lack of attendance and
we never have a Committee meeting in July.

3. Membership/Relationships - Bill Reynolds: We are working with Pack 201 on
Committee activity at Cary Lazy Daze on August 23. There may be a new Crew
or Team coming into T631. Bill and Martin are looking at some other new
possibliites for added units. Cub Round-Up will be done at our 8/21 RT.

   Current membership: 745 Cubs, 963 Boy Scouts, 40 Venturers = 1748 Scouts.
We ended 2007 with 2076 Scouts, so we need to recruit at least 328 new
Scouts between now and the end of this year to make Quality District.

Current unit status: 23 Packs, 26 Troops, 5 Venture Crews = 54 units.
We ended 2007 with 56 units, so we need 4 more units between now and the
end of this year to make Quality District.

4. District Commissioner - Jerry Jester: Jerry said that their Key3 trip to
Philmont was a really worthwhile event and that they enjoyed the trip.

5. Finance - Jerry Jester: Family Campaign at $87,026 - goal was $92,500.
Community Campaign at $1021 - goal was $6000
Major Gifts Campaign at $63,582 - goal was $53,000
Total Campaign at $151,809 - goal was $151,500
So even though our Family Campaign fell short for the first time in years,
and that our Community Campaign was a continuing failure, we made our goal.
What is even better is that 80% of the donations have already been paid.
Thank you to all of you who contributed to our successful campaign.

Popcorn - Beckie Dayton: Beckie has a full plate and is going to WoodBadge.
Needless to say she is going to need all of us to pitch in to help her do
the District Popcorn Kernel job, which, when no one else would step up to
take the job, Beckie did, even though she has done it for the last 3 years.

The District Popcorn Kick-off for Unit Kernels will be held on Tuesday.
September 2, 2008 at 7pm at Cary First Baptist Church on Academy St. in
Cary, in the church dining hall on the first floor of the church. Beckie
will need help with this in set-up, program and clean-up.

The Popcorn dates and information are on our web site. 20 units have signed
up and Beckie wants 11 more to sign up. On Sept. 25, the Shown-N-Sell
popcorn will be delivered to Neomonde's Baking Company (the same place we
used last year at 3817 Beryl Road, across from Meredith College). On Nov.
20, the Take Order popcorn will be delivered to the same place.

We will need people to help unload and sort it on those 2 dates, starting at
6pm or 6:30pm, whenever you can get there.

6. Training - Will Highsmith: The BALOO training will be on August 16 at Cary
First Baptist Church. August 23 is TC Challenge at St. Mary Magdalene in
Apex and there is also a TDC course on August 23 at Crossroads Fellowship in
Raleigh. Check the Council Training calendar for more information.

7. Boy Scout Camporee - Bob Gamble: Bob sent out a note that announced that
the 2009 Crosswinds District Spring Camporee had been moved to March 27-29.

   AN IMPORTANT NOTE:
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR UNITS KNOW ABOUT THE DATE CHANGE SO THEIR CALENDARS
CAN SHOW THE CORRECT DATE. It had been scheduled for April 17-19, 2009.

8. Eagle Board of Review - Gantt Edmiston (via e-mail): The May Crosswinds
EBOR approved 6 Eagle Ranks, 7 projects were reviewed, 5 approved and 2
pending changes. The June Crosswinds EBOR approved 5 Eagle Ranks, 11
projects were reviewed, with 7 approved, 2 pending changes and 2 rejected.
The July Crosswinds EBOR approved 4 Eagle Ranks, 6 projects were reviewed
with 3 approved, 2 pending changes and 1 rejected.

9. Activities & Civic Service - Chris Thomson:	Chris asked Beckie to report on
the 4th of July activities since Beckie coordinated the activities for our
District. Beckie said that the Bond Park activity had 7 Scouts and 7
Scouters present and they took part in the color presentation and pledge.
The Regency Park activity had 22 Scouts and Scouters present and many of
them took part in the presentation of the colors and the pledge of
allegiance.	All were in uniform! Great job Beckie and participating units.

It was announced that CCA and Interfaith were both short of food (especially
canned vegetables).	Chris is to contact Chris and Kristin Meyer, our
Scouting for Food Co-Chairs, and ask them to pass this information onto any
units collecting food soon or to try to get some units to do an emergency
   collection.

Chris is working on another JOTA session this year and also looking at the
November 8 Veteran's Day Parade in downtown Raleigh.

Committee Members of the Month: Chris and Kristin Meyer for their work with
Scouting for Food. Our units have collected more than 8 tons of food this
 year.
