Tom Tingle, Gary Thorn, Ed Walsh and Ron Werley (18)
1. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robbie Spivey. Robbie introduced our
guest, Tom Tingle our FOS Chairman.
2. Crosswinds District minutes for September 2004 were approved as written.
3. Membership/Relationships - Martin Banning: Cub Roundup ended up at 287 new
Scouts. We will have to work hard to find the 50 Venture Scouts we need to
be a quality district. Martin is going to try to get as many e-mail
addresses as he can for the unit Key 3's. The Committee feels we need them.
4. Religious Awards - Chris Siegl and Robbie Spivey: There are some plans
being made to get units involved in Scout Sunday, which is Feb. 6, with the
Methodists holding it on Feb. 13.
5. Commissioner's Report - Susan Long: Susan still needs more Commissioners.
The November 18th, 2004 Recognition Event will be held at 6:30 pm (for
finger foods) and the recognition program will start at 7:15 pm. The
Committee is expected to provide the dessert finger foods, so please contact
Susan with what you can provide for that night. Gary Thorn, Ed Walsh, Suzie
Slopek and Ron Werley are serving on the Awards and Recognition Committee.
Gary will send out a list server e-mail telling Scouters how to proceed.
If you have someone to nominate, start gathering the nomination information
now (awards earned, years in Scouts and as an adult leader, etc.). The
nomination forms are on our web site under Activities and Civic Service.
Commissioner's College will be held on Nov. 5 and 6 in Cary at the Cary
Academy. You do not have to be a Commissioner to attend and you can pick
up some very good information at the College. You MUST pre-register for
meals and classes. Go to the Occoneechee Council Website to see the flyer
for all the information.
Roundtable ADC - Gary Thorn: There are 9 of our Scouting units that have not
attended a Roundtable in 2004. Those 9 units are missing some good program.
Boy Scout Roundtable - Jerry Jester: The Boy Scout breakout at our
Roundtable is providing training for our Boy Scout leaders for the upcoming
April 2005 Spring Camporee.
Cub Scout Roundtable - Rudy Rowell: No report.
6. Finance - Martin Banning: Tom Tingle is our FOS Chairman for 2005. The
Kick-off for the 2005 Campaign is on October 13.
Popcorn - Suzie Slopek: The popcorn sale is doing well at last report.
Longistics, Inc. has again graciously agreed to let us sort the popcorn
at their location.
7. Activities & Civic Service - Open Position - No report.
8. Cub Scout Program - Open position - No Report.
Advancement - Pam Sen: Pam said the numbers have not gone up much, but the
Scout Office has loads of advancement forms that have not yet been entered.
Cub Day Camp - Martin Banning: The Council is trying to find an Executive
Director for all 3 weeks of the 2005 CDC for all 5 Wake County Districts.
Cub Family Campout for 2005 - Chris Siegl: Chris reported that the Cub
Family Campout planning is in it's early stages and he is working with the
Boy Scout Camporee planners on the coordination of the two events.
9. Boy Scout Program:
Advancement - Tom Doligalski: Tom reported that advancement reports show
that there are many Boy Scout units that have reported no advancement in
2004. We are not certain of the validity of those reports, but we are
very concerned.
Eagle Board of Review - Tom Doligalski for Tom Allen: There were 6 final
Eagle reviews in September, all approved. Five projects were reviewed,
1 approved, 2 suspended for more review and 2 rejected.
National BSA is preparing to release an Eagle Workbook.
2005 Camporee - Jerry Jester: The 2005 Camporee Staff has finished about
95% of the Program Planning and are going to coordinate with Chris Siegl.
10. Order of the Arrow - Tom Doligalski: Our Fall Fellowship had 45 from our
District in attendance. 14 new Ordeal members from our District and 50
total from our Council. They had 2 Brotherhood candidates finish up, with
25 total for the year. OA Ordeal Nominees can still go thru their ordeal
thru 22 May, 2005. This is due to the bad weather we had that weekend.
The Netami Chapter elections will be held at the Oct. 21 Roundtable.
11. Venturing - Chris Siegl and Bill Fairhurst: Chris said they had 147 youth,
40 adult Scouters and 50 consultants at the Venture Vortex. Bill reported
that 12 Crews out of the 52 Crews in our Council showed up. Our District
has 11 Crews and 3 of those Crews attended. Bill received a Venturing
Leadership Award at the Venture Vortex. Well done, Bill.
12. Health & Safety - Jim McGraw: No report.
13. Training - Brian Garrett: Brian asked the Committee if they wanted to
have him create an adult Scout leader training award database. There was
much discussion as the council is talking about doing it also. Brian was
asked to hold off on the effort since it would involve trying to get the
adult training records from the units and the Committee was not sure how
much of the data they would be willing to share from their databases.
District Committee Member of the Month: Bill Fairhurst, for his Venturing
work.
