2. The minutes for September 2009 were approved as written.
3. Training - Lu Little: The Sept. 26th Mega Training had 128 attendees and
was staffed by 30 administrators and instructors. They have scheduled a
BALOO course for November 21, 2009 at the Cary Presbyterian Church. There
is also going to be a Basic Commissioner's training course on October 10 at
Camp Durant during the Council Camporee. University of Scouting is Nov. 7.
Gary Thorn is the registrar and they currently have 192 signed up and 54 of
them are from Crosswinds District and 10 more are from out of our Council.
4. Membership/Relationships - Rodger Skirvin: Rodger emphasized that our
District really needs to find a Membership Chair and form a Membership
Committee. We still have 58 units (22 Packs, 27 Troops, 6 Crews and 3
Posts) and we have 853 Cubs, 996 Scouts, 49 Venturers and 65 Explorers for
a total of 1963 Scouts. Our goal for 2009 is to have 2048 Scouts.
5. 2009 Popcorn Sale - Beckie Dayton: The September 8 popcorn kick-off was
well attended. The Show-N-Sell popcorn was unloaded and sorted thanks to
lots of volunteers and Monty Edge of Recovery Logistics for the loan of a
fork lift truck and two hydraulic lifts. At present there are 17 Packs, 13
Troops and 1 Crew signed up to sell popcorn this year.
6. Eagle Board of Review - Gantt Edmiston (via e-mail): In September we had 5
Eagle Ranks approved and there were 7 projects reviewed, with 5 approved and
2 rejected.
7. Commissioner Service - Jerry Jester: The Commissioner's Staff is busy
training new DC's and getting the units paperwork for the Centennial Quality
Unit Award checked over. Gary Thorn reported that our Roundtable attendance
was down at the beginning of this year, but now it is going up. 62% of our
units had representatives at Roundtable in September and 34% of our first
time Roundtable attendees have attended a second Roundtable.
8. District Cub-O-Ree - Gary Thorn for Robin Ruck: Gary is Registrar for the
Cub-O-Ree also. At present there are 7 Packs registered for the October
23-25, 2009 event.
9. Activities and Civic Service - Chris Thomson (via e-mail): On Sept. 11th
at Bond Park they had 15 Scouts, including 6 Cubs for the flag ceremony.
Chris said that the event was very respectful. The Town of Cary would like
us to participate again in 2010.
Cub Scouts can take part in the Raleigh Veteran's Day Parade on November 7,
2009, in downtown Raleigh. Bobbi Stanley is coordinating our participation.
If you are interested contact Chris Thomson for more information.
Military Night at Golden Corral is looking for 5 to 10 mature Boy Scouts to
help. If you have anyone who is interested contact Chris Thomson.
Brad Bailey of Wake Memorial Cemetary would like to have another flag
retirement ceremony in April of next year. The Committee reported that we
have sufficient flags on-hand to retire.
Our District Recognition Event will be held at Cary Presbyterian Church on
December 3, 2009. Gary Thorn is the event Chairman and he will get an
e-mail out to our units asking for Religious Awards received since our last
