1. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robbie Spivey. Robbie introduced our
guest, Everett Millikin, the NESA Chairman for our Council.
2. Crosswinds District minutes for October 2004 were approved as written.
3. Membership/Relationships - Suzie Slopek: No report.
4. Religious Awards - Chris Siegl and Robbie Spivey: No report.
5. Commissioner's Report - Susan Long: Susan recruited 2 new Unit
Commissioners, Peter DeLyon and Adelaide Siegl. Commissioners College
is this coming weekend. Susan hopes we will have good attendance as it is
being held right here in Cary.
Roundtable ADC - Gary Thorn: There will be no RoundTable is November as the
annual Recognition Event is being held that night.
Boy Scout Roundtable - Jerry Jester: Jerry presented a logo for our District
that a friend of Scouting had done for him. We discussed it and we will see
how it looks on our web site home page. The Committee approved the design.
Jerry reported that at our last RoundTable, all but 7 Boy Scout Troops were
represented.
Cub Scout Roundtable - Rudy Rowell: No report.
6. Finance - Martin Banning: Martin said that at our FOS Kick-off meeting
our District got pledges for $6,000.
Popcorn - Suzie Slopek: The popcorn sale is over and Crosswinds District
had total sales of $258,116, which is an increase of about 14% over what
our Crosswinds units sold last year. Great job and our THANKS to all!
7. Activities & Civic Service - Open Position - No report - However,
Everett Millikin presented the plans that he has for putting an active NESA
program into effect in our Council. He wants every District to try and get
an active NESA program in place. Keith Biegert has agreed to be our
District NESA Chairman. Contact Keith if you are an Eagle Scout and you
want to help him get a NESA program going in the Crosswinds District.
8. Cub Scout Program - Open position - No Report.
Advancement - Pam Sen: Pam e-mailed in a report that showed 32 rank
advancements in October, with 26 of them being advancement to Bobcat.
Cub Family Campout for 2005 - Chris Siegl: Chris has created a first draft
of information about the Family Campout. It will be put on our e-mail list
server and put on our web site for information and comment.
9. Boy Scout Program - Ed Walsh:
Advancement - Tom Doligalski: No report.
Eagle Board of Review - Tom Doligalski for Tom Allen: There were 4 final
Eagle reviews in October, all approved. One project was reviewed and
approved. A special Eagle Board was held for one Boy Scout on 11/2 and that
final was approved.
2005 Camporee - Jerry Jester: The 2005 Camporee patch is being designed and
the program planning finished up. His committee collected many waterproof
political signs for use at the camporee, with the politician's blessings.
10. Order of the Arrow - Tom Doligalski: Tom reported that for the first time
in a long time, the OA has a full slate of adult advisors. Will Allen is
the new Chapter Chief.
11. Venturing - Chris Siegl and Bill Fairhurst: Bill reported that the Teen
Leadership Committee is recruiting Venture Scouts to interface with our
District Committee. They have done extensive work in starting the planning
for the 2005 Venturing Vortex.
12. Health & Safety - Jim McGraw: No report.
13. Training - Brian Garrett: Brian said that the October 23 BALOO Training
had been cancelled. The Pow Wow is still on schedule. Our District is
responsible for leading the IOLS course in October of 2005. Ed Walsh and
Bob Gamble have agreed to head up this training course for our District.
14. Scout-O-Rama - Robbie Spivey: Robbie reported that Cary Parks and
Recreation is letting us pick either the SAS Soccer area or Bond Park for
the Scout-O-Rama, with no cost to our District. Martin and Robbie are
going to meet with the town reps to look over the sites.
15. The District Christmas Party on December 1, 2004 will be held at Robbie
Spivey's home.
16. District Elections - The Committee: A slate of District officers for
2004/2005 (attached) was presented and approved. Robbie Spivey was
elected to be our District Chairman for his second one year term and Susan
Long was approved by the Council to be our District Commissioner for the
next year. Congratulations to all!
District Committee Member of the Month: Cindy Smith and Suzie Slopek for
heading up a very successful 2004 Crosswinds Popcorn Sale. Thanks to them for
a job well done!
