1. The meeting was called to order by Rodger Skirvin.
2. The minutes for October 2009 were approved as written.
3. Membership/Relationships - Rodger Skirvin: We have 22 Packs, 27 Troops, 6
Venture Crews and 3 Explorer Posts for a total of 58 units. We have 904
in Cub Scouts, 1023 in Boy Scouts, 50 in Venturing and 65 in Exploring for a
total of 2042 Scouts. Rodger gave the details of the Cub Scout categories.
Memberhip campaigns are being completed this month and when completed should
put us over our membership goal.
4. 2009 Popcorn Sale - Rodger Skirvin for Beckie Dayton: The Council raised
$2,319,000 this year and our District grossed $329,000. Take Order popcorn
is being distributed November 12 & 13. Terry's Floor Fashions has again
agreed to let us use their warehouse at 300 E. Durham Road in Cary, as they
did for the Show-N-Sell distribution. Thank you again Terry's Floor Fashions!
5. Commissioner Service - Jerry Jester: Commissioners are concentrating their
their efforts this month on the Unit Inventories. The unit leaders are being
asked to supply their rosters to be checked against the council records.
As for the Centennial District goals, Jerry thinks we are on track to
complete the mission in 2009.
6. Training - Lu Little: University of Scouting was a great success with
Crosswinds taking the lead in attendees. It was held this past Saturday,
November 6, at Wake Tech. Other events coming up are the Spring IOLS in
2010 which we are hosting; BALOO Training on November 21, 2009 at Cary
Presbyterian from 9am to 5pm; Cub Scout Specific and Troop Committee
Challange on January 28, 2010 and Cub Scout Specific and Scoutmaster
Specific on May 23, 2010.
7. District Cub-O-Ree - Gary Thorn for Robin Ruck: The Cuboree was held on
October 23-25 at Camp Durant. It ended early because of terrible weather.
Robin Ruck, Cub-O-Ree Chairman, was pleased up to the point of the weather
cancellation.
It was mentioned that the 100th Anniversary Camporee will be held on April
16-18, 2010 at Camp Reeves and the Youth Jamboree will be held at the State
Fairgrounds on April 24, 2010.
8. Eagle Board of Review - Gantt Edmiston (via e-mail): In October we had 13
Eagle Ranks approved and one suspended and there were 8 projects reviewed,
with 7 approved and 1 rejected.
9. Our District Committee meeting location hosts, Triangle Rock Climbing Club,
donated a Climbing merit badge flyer to the Crosswinds District.
10. Order of the Arrow - Cliff Ward (via e-mail): Cliff submitted a report
that the Chapter is holding elections this month and that they are gearing
up for Unit elections for 2010.
NOTE: District Recognition Event will be held at Cary Presbyterian Church on
December 3, 2009 starting at 6:30 pm. Gary Thorn is the event Chairman and
is collecting the data for the event program. He must have all of the
youth Religious Awards and any nominations by November 10, 2009.
