District Chairman District Commissioner District Executive

Attendees: Martin Banning, Keith Biegert, Herb Council, Bill Fairhurst,
Jerry Jester, Kevin John, Roger Lear, Susan Long, Pam Sen,
Chris Siegl, Suzie Slopek, Robbie Spivey and Ed Walsh (13)

1. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Robbie Spivey.

2. Crosswinds District minutes for November 2004 were approved as written.

3. Membership/Relationships - Suzie Slopek: We are down 46 Venture Scouts
which will probably keep us from becoming a Quality District this year.
We have exceeded the Quality District criteria in Cubs and Scouts, but are
   lacking the required Venture growth.

4. Venturing - Bill Fairhurst: Bill reported that the key to getting Venture
Scouts is getting Venture Scouts to invite friends to explore the program.
The Committee agreed with that observation.

5. Religious Awards - Chris Siegl and Robbie Spivey: A memo has been mailed to
our units asking them to submit to the Committee a written description of
what their units are planning to do for Scout Sunday.

6. Commissioner's Report - Susan Long: Commissioner College had 70 people in
attendance, 6 or 8 from out of Council and 14 from our Crosswinds District.

The Council District Committee workshop will be held January 22, 2005 from
9am to 3pm at St. Gile's Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. All of our
District Committee members, especially the new members, are requested to
attend the event. This is on the same day as the Council Eagle Banquet.

Our Recognition Event had about 175 in attendance, with good representation
from our units. There were 10 Eagle Scouts in attendance. That is an
outstanding result for our first District Recognition Event. Susan and her
Awards Committee were thanked for all the time and hard work involved.

Susan said Kevin Shanahan has joined our District as a Unit Commissioner.

Next Tuesday, 12/7, the Commissioner's Staff will be making unit inventory
   calls to the units.

*** NOTE FOR UNIT LEADERS *** Make sure all adult positions in the unit are
carefully checked, and if the adult has changed positions they are required
to provide an updated registration form, which REQUIRES their SS number.

Roundtable ADC - Gary Thorn: No report.

Boy Scout Roundtable - Jerry Jester: Jerry said the upcoming RoundTables
will provide information on on-line re-chartering and commissioner service.
Jerry provided an updated Crosswinds logo, which adds more detail to the
design. The Committee approved the changes. The new logo will appear soon
   on the District web site.

Cub Scout Roundtable - Rudy Rowell: No report.

7. Finance - Martin Banning: Jonathan Taylor has agreed to be our FOS Major
Gifts Breakfast Chairman. We have raised $7,000 of our $99,000 goal.
The Wake County FOS group met to introduce the unit Family Campaign
coordinators to the FOS methods and goals. Our Family Campaign for 2005
has a goal of $61,000 (about 2/3 of our total 2005 FOS goal.

Popcorn - Suzie Slopek: Beckie Nalley from Pack and Troop 200 has agreed to
be our 2005 District Popcorn Kernel. Thank you, Beckie!

was approved on Nov. 2 in a special EBOR). Three projects were reviewed
with 1 approved, 1 rejected and 1 suspended for further review.

2005 Camporee - Jerry Jester: The prizes are in hand for the Camporee per
Jim McGraw and the maps are being made and laminated. Jerry reported that
the patch designs (several) have been done and our Committee will pick one
for the Camporee. Jerry said that at the upcoming RoundTables they will be
requesting Chaplins from the units to help conduct the Camporee religious
services. They will also start asking the units to sign up to help.
Registration has started on our web site and some units have signed up.

10. Cub Scout Program - Open position - No Report.

15. New Business - Chris Siegl: A request has been forwarded to the RoundTable
ADC from the Rails-to-Trails organization for finding out how they can work
with the Scouting program in our District. Moorehead Planetarium would
also like to work with our District in promoting Scouts interest in
astronomy, etc.. Chris would like to start some kind of list within our
Committee that shows which organizations are willing to help Scouting in
their associated areas. Bill Fairhurst reported that Venturing already has
that type of information at the web site Crew470.org in a consultant list
of organizations willing to work with Scouting.

Year's party at the January 6, 2005 Committee meeting at Robbie's house.
